well, i don't want to hate totalgsm for it, but y'know -
how do i pay online?

guess its purely business...

I understand your frustration, but it's not totalgsm's responsibility to give you something for free that they had to pay to develop. What you also don't understand is that totalgsm don't have a piece of software that they can give out that allows you to flash your phone on you own. You can only flash your phone by connecting to their servers to be authenticated - they have to pay SE for this authentication process. That authentication costs thousands of dollars so they can only afford to flash your phone for you if you (and hundreds of others) pay them for it.

If you want to flash your phone for free you can 1. wait for a group of open source developers to crack the encryption and offer free software with the crack built in (aka XS++ for DB2020), or 2. crack the encryption yourself and write your own software.

One is a waiting game, the other is extremely difficult and not likely to be achieved by one person on their own.

Pay only the firmware donīt pay to apply drivers
Donīt pay to apply drivers, it is useless to apply pay drivers because the drivers are developed by developers SE or freelance developers.
They hope to launch a program free opensource to apply for drivers because the price you pay with this maintenance in a cell where you can buy another phone again.
It isnīt worth paying to implement drivers.
Pay to the developers

you can use davinci to copy files to your internal FS. (ie: mod menus etc)

btw, totalgsm don't have software per se, what they have is a client that connects to their server. You can tell that client to ask the totalgsm server to crack open you phones file system using the encryption key that they get from SE. But you can't run this client stnad alone - you need to be connected to totalgsm. The software client is free, you pay totalgsm for access to the encryption key that allows your phone's internal FS to be opened.

You can also use setool to open up the FS of a DB3150 phone... But that is more expensive way as setool box costs... Anyway totalgsm should be ready soon...

If only I know how to do it, then I wouldn't have been part of all this talks, and I wouldn't be receiving comments just like what max wedge has written.

So please don't tell people to make their own software.

All this talks , all this fuss - but still totalgsm doesn't have it yet.
Better force SE to make modding possible, and make it sound like a good marketing strategy to them...

Well if you ask me, I want free modding too (who doesn't) but in a time when modding is not free we all want to know the cheapest service and the best way to pay (to suit our needs). So we don't have much choice to wait for a free solution or use totalgsm for e.g. if we desperately need some DB3150 operation.

You can use davinci right now, no waiting. 10 euro's to upload multiple files (in any one flash operstion) to your phones FS.

Includes DB3150 support.

Has anybody done an experiment with the themes before,
I mean for example,
inserting an xml file inside a thm file so that the phone would read a flash menu that is saved inside the phones memory?

I have tried but no success... I guess there is some other code located in the MAIN firmware which tells the phone to read flash files from a location within it's filesystem...

the only thing that the "xml-in-a-themefile" can change is the media colors and background...

I'll try sending e-mail to SE to allow us to externally change the flash menu. It's worth a try I guess.

Well you can start a petition if not. But I don't think that will listen to us.

Yes I've tried this also. I tried using the xml file to point to a flash menu in the "others" folder, but either I couldn't get the syntax right, or it's simply hardwired into the firmware.

I think it's in the MAIN firmware... FS shouldn't be involved much in this... If so a patch would be required for such stuff if I'm not wrong.

No it won't be in main firmware, it will be in the FS imho. Things such as battery icons etc are in main firmware, but menu resources are in the FS (menu.ml etc.)

EDIT: I just downloaded an extracted W910 FS, and the flash menu swf files are in tpa/preset/system/desktop, so main firmware is probably hardwired to look in this FS folder when a theme xml file references a menu flash file.

So we can change menu animations simply by putting new menus in the tpa/preset/system/desktop folder and changing the menu filename in the theme xml file.

A patch that changes the menu animation location to the others folder would be the other way.
