The Touch Pro implements TV-out through the USB port.
See here.

yes but it's designed from the outset with tv-out ability. The X1 isn't, and I don't know if it would be possible to add it aftermarket.

Touch PRO is quite expensive 535 Pounds . Any clues how much the XPERIA would be?

Yes, but, internally, X1 and Touch Pro use some of the same hardware. As we know that HTC is the ODM of the X1. The Qualcomm chipsets support TV out. So, I'm wondering, what are the limitations to the X1 not having TV-out implemented ? Is it limited by software or could it indeed be easily implemented in the final production version of the X1 ? |

that makes sense. Actually I had wondered if touch pro and x1 were clones (they have very similiar specs and formfactor)
Hopefully you are right. I have to wonder though why did SE not implement it if it would be that easy?

Something to do with battery? The touch diamond has an awful battery life.

Was speaking to an 02 customer contract rep today, my contract is up in 4 days.
He entered into his spiel, trying to interest me in a new SE phone, so i cut him off.
I said" save your breath, i'm only interested in one of 2 phones. HTC touch Pro, or SE X1".
Well, I dont think you'll see the Touch Pro for some time on 02, but the X1 is listed to be out within the next couple of months" he said.
Interesting?

TV-Out may not be implementable on the X1, it all depends if the required connections(tracks) are present connecting the USB port to the chipset. TV-Out is actually a feature of the Qualcomm MSM7200 processor. We have'nt seen it working on any of HTC's previous offerings. So my guess is TV-out wont work on the X1.

It works on the Touch Pro, so why not the X1 ?
IOW, since TV-out is supported through the mini-USB, what electronically is present, on the Touch Pro, that isn't present on the X1 ?

WHy dont you mail SE about that? Most probably the connecting tracks are missing on the X1. You dont see the DIamond having TV out as well do you?

It's an advertised feature of the Touch Pro, and not of the X1, how about that? What on earth makes you think that SE are suddenly going to implement it on the X1, regardless of the practicalities?
It's *very* common practice for manufacturers to hold out on features regardless of how easy they may be to support. The Qualcom processors have a long line of features which aren't necessarily present in every device that uses them - just ask a Tytn II owner about Direct3D support, for example. It's present on their processor, but HTC flat out refused to release the driver (because they'd have to pay Qualcom to use it).
IOW, since TV-out is supported through the mini-USB, what electronically is present, on the Touch Pro, that isn't present on the X1 ?
Nobody here will have the faintest clue, but it could something as simple as a missing track or pin on the board, or indeed nothing at all. Without the software support, it won't work - and XDA DEVs can't always fill that gap (a year later, they're still working on the Tytn II...)
