I am getting so tired of waiting for the X1. Will it ever come out and will it be what it is expected to be? I am now thinking of the G900 as it is available, I can get it in the US, and it seems to be a proven device. Are others waiting for the X1 to get away from UIQ. I personally do not have too many problems.

Yeah I'm really excited about X1's release as well, especially since Australia is always one of the last nations to have anything released...but....

I am always wary about the "first-of-class". The fact that it's Xperia's very first model is a scary thing - the amount og bugs they have to iron out, and all the other little tweaks that hasn't happened. I reckon, as a general rule of thumb, anything that is the first model of the range should be avoided at all cost. Lucky for you, the C series has been around for a little while now...and if you count it towards the K series, then you have absolutely no worries!

I was initially going to wait and get the X1 to replace my P1 but I've ordered the Samsung i900 Omnia today because I can't be bothered to wait for SE to release a decent phone.

I was actually planning to get the X1 but after sometime of waiting I just got myself the G900 2 months ago and I'm quite happy with it and besides that I saved myself a lot of money by not purchasing the X1.

The thing is, if you're seriously considering the X1, then you're halfway to leaving SE anyway. At the end of the day the X1 is just a Windows Mobile phone, and there are many similar WM phones from other manufacturers that are already here, or will be released sooner than the X1.

If you want a keyboard, then look out for the HTC Touch Pro. It's just been released here in the UK, so will be appearing elsewhere soon, and is very similar to the X1 in most regards - it's even built by the same people (since HTC are SE's chosen manufacturer for the X1).

The point made about the X1 being "first in line" is a good one - although it's not as groundbreaking as SE would like people to think in terms of Windows Mobile phones, it is a whole new line for SE, and the chances are that even when it is eventually released, there will be bugs and problems aplenty. HTC, on the other hand, have a long history of producing good WM devices and supporting them pretty well too. They also have a great user support base (in the form of XDA Devs for example) whereas SE users are all new to Windows Mobile.

I've had the HTC Tytn II for the last year (the immediate predeccesor to the Touch Pro), having abandoned UIQ after the M600, and I've never looked back. The Tytn II is already very close to what the X1 aims to be, and has been around for a year now.

Now this is a bit different to the other G900 VS threads. Lord knows, mid range general use phone or top end buisness phone I suppose? For me the sway of Symbian is too much so G900 all the way. X1 is a nice tool, makes me laugh that it's cheaper then the N96 as well LOL. Expansys have the price for it then the X1 won't be far off. Even though it runs Windows the X1 is mighty sexy.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I do realize this is far from an apples to apples comparison. It seems the G900 would do everything I need it to plus I can still keep my UIQ apps that I have purchased. I think the biggest drive for me to move on from my P990i is the size and weight. the P1 did not offer much improvement so I opted out of that upgrade. I think I'll likely move on with the G900 and then work towards a 2nd gen X phone.

Here is whole thread dedicated to pictures taken with the G900 and G700 but the most pictures in said thread are from the G900.
You can also look into my profile for G900 pics they are not the best around but still quite good.

Why do SE take so long over releasing smart phones. The X1 looks too big.

Compare the X1's size specifications (you can see them in the Esato "Phones" section) to another phone like the P1i or whatever and you will see the X1 isn't so big after all. It is just pictures of it that make you think it is large.

Because they don’t want to make mistake that they did on P990i.
