Hi guys!

Last year I owned the P1 for a few months and then switched to Nokia. Right now I have the N95 but I miss the touchscreen so I decided to go back to UIQ.

N95 is nice and I learned a lot with it - how to debrand it and update the firmware, how to sign your applications, I also hacked my phone and I'm able to install applications without signing them.

I knew very little about debranding, updating and certificates when I had my P1 but I was very impressed by it (and I still am). Now I'm planning to buy another one in a few days and I want to hack it, put W960 walkman player in it and install many games and applications (I know where to find them now).

I was thinking about getting the W960, but it's available only in a few stores in my country and is still very expensive - for that much money I can buy the P1, Sandisk M2 8GB memory card and a Walkman headset and still have some money left. As a matter of fact I decided to actually do all these things and I already made an arrangement to buy an 8GB card.

Right now I want to know which headset I should get: HPM 70, HPM 82 or some other? I remember that the standard headset I got with my first P1 pretty much sucked so I want to buy a good one this time.

I would also appreciate it if you gave me some Esato forum links about debranding, hacking and modding UIQ devices.

Thanks in advance.

As the W960 walkman is compatible with most headsets as far as I know, it's better to go for the best one you can imo . You can get the HPM82 or maybe some better headset for your P1...

And mate, I'm new P1 user too. I was using Sony Ericsson non-smartphones for a long time and I'm really satisfied with it. Especially the UIQ hacks are making it greater than ever

Ok, so I'm gonna definetely buy a phone tommorow, but now I have a dilemma since the G900 has appeared today in one shop in my country.

The P1 sells for about 350 euros while the G900 costs 430. Is it worth it giving 80 more euros for the newer phone? What are the advantages of the G900 over P1 (besides having more megapixels and a D-pad, but not having a qwerty keyboard)?

Advantages of G900 over P1:

- better software, great user interface (renewed one), better notes application, classic phone design, 5 mega pixel camera...

dissadvantages:

- no qwerty keyboard, smaller display...

If you think those options mentioned as advantages over P1 worth for 80 more euros, go for the G900, but I personally think that P1 is better choice, as you can install it Walkman player and import the G900 notes app... You will only have worse camera, nothing else

Yeah, probably going to get the P1 - I think that it also has better build quality (with all these matal parts) than the G900, but that's just my opinion 'cause I never really had a chance to hold the G900 in my hand.

Well my G900 arrived today yippeeeee. I have ditched my P1i for it. IMO the G900 is better, the screen isn't too small and BETTER then the P1i, I can view it in direct sunlight and it's sharper. Having the D pad and the redesigned interface is amazing, it's soooooo much easier and better to use. I kept getting the stylus out when I didn't need to LOL.
My advice would also be to try the P1i keyboard BEFORE you buy it, that was one reason I have changed, I just hate typing on it. Build quality is better on the P1i but so far IMO that's all that is. The G900 wipes the floor with it for me and my preferences.

We;; I like the P1 more... I know the keyboard was an issue for many users who bought the P1 and then changed itl... All about that qwerty keyboard... So the best would be first to try the P1 keyboard before buying it... After all the P1 has handwriting recognition to (the G900 has aswell) so keyboard might not be needed that much if you prefer handwriting

I did it and I'm back, my new P1 is having its first charge right now. Here are some pictures taken with my N95, later I will post pictures taken with the P1.
Btw., here's my firmware version - is it OK or should I update, and if I update my firmware will I be able to hack my phone later?

Nice, I'm glad I don't have to go through the firmware-updating drama.

Yes, the N95 is OK and has some nice features, but the P1 is better - much better keyboard and build quality, and having the touchscreen is just beyond compare.
Btw., I hacked my phone last night and tried some of the mods, it wasn't hard at all. Here's Walkman 3.0 on my P1.

I have one question though, how do I change the volume when in Walkman 3.0 and listening to music through the speaker? When I use the jog dial it just takes me through the list of available tracks, I just can't find where the volume up and down is.

Press 2 to up and 8 to down the volume, once you type 2 or 8 you can change the slider using the jog wheel. Enjoy your New P1 mate

A Happy P1 User

Some more shortcuts.

4 - Previous track

6 - Next Track

5 - Play/Pause Track

1 - Set Equalizer

7 - Shuffle on/off

9 - Minimize the Walkman Player

0 - Stops the track

Hope this helps you
