My first UIQ phone. Some confusions |

Its a W950.
Firstly, I see that the contact fields are very limited, only about 3 numbers per contact, for a smartphone i thought it would have unlimited like in S60. Is there anyway around this?
Secondly, there really is no other way to close an application other than from task manager, when you press back, it still runs in the background.
Thirdly, there is no way to minimize an application. If i'm playing a video, and i get an SMS, the video will stop and wont resume, i have to play from the beginning. Likewise if i am playing a video, i cant pause it and open another application, the video will stop and will start over.
Fourthly, there is no way to edit the equiliser. Mobile-review specifically states that it can be done. Am I missing something?
Fifthly, there is no way to add your own shortcut to the standby screen, it only allows for a handful of chosen shortcuts, which doesnt contain 'contacts'. A big minus IMO.
Bluetooth connection frequently drops.
To view the sent folder, i have to open inbox, then more, then view folder, then sent folder which is a long process for no apparent reason.
Ring tones change with every theme. I fail to see how these are even related, so I wonder why they change.
These are two different shots of the walkman player, one posted from GSM Arena(may it be from LOTR), and other from mobile review(mariah carie song). My player looks like the one from GSM Arena where as the mobile-review one is different looking, with a different button layout. Why is that?
There is no play pause stop button on the walkman player and its not fun to play pause from the side button. The player on mobile-review has these buttons, but not mine.

Did you get it on purpose?

If you press "More" and then "Add field", you'll see you can add a whole lot of phone number fields.

That's true, but that's generally the whole idea behind UIQ - or so it's been said by UIQ execs. Many third party applications do come with an exit button, though. This would however be a problem on the W950, considering its limited RAM memory.

Are you using the separate video player or the video player that comes up when having selected a video from the file manager?

I don't have a W950, but Mobile-review's statement is likely to be based on prototype software.
Fifthly, there is no way to add your own shortcut to the standby screen, it only allows for a handful of chosen shortcuts, which doesnt contain 'contacts'. A big minus IMO.
Huh? If you're in standby mode, and you press "More" - what's available? Anyway, have a look for GDesk - it's a desktop replacement with many, many, many features.
Bluetooth connection frequently drops.
Have never experienced this on any SE device. What firmware are you running on the W950?
To view the sent folder, i have to open inbox, then more, then view folder, then sent folder which is a long process for no apparent reason.
How about using the left and right arrows to choose between inbox, drafts, sent, etc.?

You can set a ring tone to each theme on UIQ and SE phones generally, so that's why. I can't remember if you're prompted whether you'd like to change to the theme ring tone, though.

Once again, it's probably prototype software. Besides, what do you think the play/pause, forward & next keys on the W950 are for?

I'm using the built in video player. And no, i cant seem to find contacts as a shortcut. It only lets a specific contact as a shortcut.
And someone here mentioned that no UIQ phone has the ability to customize the eq settings? True?
And yes, i did buy it on purpose

Yes, but the stand-alone player (in the menu) or the one that pops up when you've selected a video file via the file manager? They're not completely alike, and the one from the file manager will disappear once you've opened something else / changed the focus to another application.
We are talking about the five standby application shortcuts, right? (pictured below)
The four of them (not the menu one) can be customized. Simply hover on the shortcut, select More and then replace the shortcut.

Blimey!

No problemo.
The c-key can be used for deleting stuff on my G900 with no problems... :s
And yes, no manual equalizer setting on UIQ phones. You do have 11 equalizers to choose from, though.

you can use swiss manager to close all application at once, or u can specify time interval to close specified application after xx mins if it is idle.
Bluetooth connection frequently drops.
Bluetooth frequency is good with my P990
Ring tones change with every theme. I fail to see how these are even related, so I wonder why they change.
Stupid uiq interface. i have almost given up changing themes & ringtones on my p990, after using w800, w810, 200.U will need to dedicate 5 to 10 mins of ur time to set themes n ringtones. And u have to keep selecting the ringtones everytime u change the theme.
To view the sent folder, i have to open inbox, then more, then view folder, then sent folder which is a long process for no apparent reason.

overall menu system is poorly laid out, which leads to going into too much of menu items to do, simple task

@QVGA
If a theme file includes ring and alarm tones, yes, your settings will change if you select such a theme.
But you can easily remove the sound files via SE Theme Creator and copy the modified theme back to your phone.

Some websites redirect you to their mobile or wap site automatically if they detect a mobile web browser and Hotmail is one of them.
But since Opera Mini is accessing web pages through Opera servers and not directly, you are able to open the original 'web' page.

I think only never UIQ can open HTML web sites with the built in browser... Anyway so can look for another software that opens HTML properly to see if it suits your needs...

It's not really the phone's fault, it's Hotmail's fault. They've got their systems set up to redirect to the mobile version for all users of Opera Mobile 8.65, which is the browser in W950. |
