Today Nokia introduced the Nokia 1508, a compact mobile device for CDMA network. The Nokia 1508 features include a slim, lightweight candy bar design, easy key pad dialing, integrated stereo FM radio and high-speed data connectivity to the internet via cable. The Nokia 1508 is estimated to start shipping in the third quarter of 2008 in select CDMA markets.

I though Nokia announced that they would not be supporting CDMA networks anymore... Weird.

Oh it was a news story maybe up to a year ago. US New Zealanders took notice of it because one of our two networks (the crap one) is a CDMA network, so we had a good laugh. Seems it was wrong though.

Oh well, our CDMA network is getting with the times and going GSM soon.

Nokia announced that due to exorbitant licence fees from Qualcomm who own the CDMA technology, that they would no longer develop new CDMA phones so thats why this is a low-end model and not an all-singing, all-dancing, do-everything model like the N95. I've heard that Nokia get another manufacturer to make thier CDMA models anyway just like SE is planning for thier low-end GSM models with Sagem.

My original link in the New Zealanders thread was from Reuters but this 2006 article on Fox News should do as a creditable source.
