Indeed, i get your point, and with regard to the TS UI, ALL phones try to emulate the iphone, but there's the rub, it's a one trick pony, and the dictionary definition of Multimedia incorporates both Video and still image recording, need i say any more

Surely you remember my post about certain people who keep citing the 'advanced technology' of an iPhone months ago then

Now then, I read somewhere that having a touchscreen means a device is a smartphone... Err... I may be an idiot by iPhone users' standards, but can someone please explain to me the reasoning behind the above?

None of the current bunch of 8MP shooters are worthy of being branded as media creators. Banging out documents and messages is awfully slow on a T9 keypad. The only 5MP equipped WinMo phone, the Touch HD is trying too hard to be an iPhone, or at least that's what you said.

The Touch HD is a misguided attempt to drag WM into a form factor which it doesn't particularly fit in its current form, and little of its software is really compatible with - it also suffers from typical HTC weaknesses in video and general performance - but it does have a better camera than the X1, on paper (the same paper specs that separates the iPhone from the competition). Of course it's not really much good in practice, but then neither does the X1 fully live up to its promise in that area - it's the same old story with all these phones. Nokia are probably the only smartphone manufacturer that actually knock out half-decent cameras, and can certainly boast the most useful video recording (which is just plain poor on the X and P series.

Again, look at the subject of this thread. We've established that the iPhone excels in some significant areas, and is at least competent in others, but where does the P or X excel next to the competition? What makes the X1 a better media creator than the Touch Pro, for example? Would it be anyone's first choice for a camera or video recording? I don't think so.

I can't think of a single Blackberry that beats the P1i's camera module. The S60 reps (N95/N96/N82/N85) are awfully slow to type on.

But the Blackberry's truly excel at email, the N series for multimedia - and I hate to mention it, but if we're talking S60 what about the E90? If shooting video, pictures, and whacking out text is really your main priority then surely the E90 with it's excellent keyboard and class leading video recording etc would be a better choice? (No I wouldn't touch one, but then I'm happy to type on glass).

In the current scheme of things, the X1 and P1i fit in perfectly as the one of the best compromises for media creation.

The P1 is history, the X1 is a compromise certainly, but just another compromise in a sea of similar WM devices. If you look back at how the X1 was marketed - the first flagship of the new Xperia brand - it was all about the "eXperience", platform independent, an uncompromising, premium user experience for every facet of media - and that's exactly what the iPhone 3G (and more specifically the massive growth in the iPhone platform spearheaded by the model) has overshadowed. The users originally targeted by "Xperia" are now picking up the improving iPhone in their droves, leaving a shrinking market for the X1 who are as likely to go for A.N.Other Windows Mobile handset as the supposedly mass-market X1.

I've owned some, played with others. Having only had the iPhone for a couple of months, I'm probably less experienced in that than anything else.

I'm thinking as regards the HT HD specifically , IMO it's a LOT better than you give it credit for, i experience dozens of people like you, they buy an iphone and suddenly every other device sucks, your very astute in your arguments, but ultimately just another of Job's zombies.

That was sarcasm? The thing is, you're already a stereotype yourself, and you don't even know it. How many amazingly discerning individuals squawking about "Jobs zombies" and "fanboys" do you think there are? Parroting that rubbish doesn't help your case, it just turns you into another of the mindless army of Apple-bashers that pointlessly roam every tech forum and blog on the internet, boring everyone but themselves.

I know WM, I know HTC hardware, and I've seen enough of the HD (and the various faults and disappointments reported on the blackstone forums) to make a reasonable judgement call. That form factor combined with WM and WM apps is a mistake - it might look like an iPhone, but it doesn't even do WM justice.

I never risk getting RSI by getting involved with guys who can argue the back legs off a donkey, and convince people that black is white, and vice-versa, but i'll tell you one thing, i can spot a fanboy blindfolded at 500 paces

Actually you can't, you just like to say the word because it's an easy and populist comeback to any remotely pro-iPhone opinion, and in that you're no different to most other posters here.

But thanks!
