Well my findings are things are much smoother and it doesn't lag as much apart from in Cydia. 3G signal is good but it depends where you live, I live quite high up so that's why I get good signal.

AppStore is great as well now, it doesn't take forever to load and has some new features built in. Battery life has been improved, only had one Safari crashes and syncing is also a bit faster now. And I haven't had missing apps yet. Finally I am enjoying it, loving the Emoji icons.

Are there any profile manager apps, or any that will make adjusting the sound settings easier, e.g. for at night? [addsig]

Go here and type in your city/town whatever and it'll bring up a selection in the drop down box. Then copy the code that appears below, mine is: EUR|UK|UK240|Gatwick and paste this over the one in the configureme.js file

I scrapped that widget after a while, was irritating. You might like this....

This isn't my screenshot but I used to use this, and have it if you want me to upload it. Takes a bit of tinkering around with to move it around if you dont want it at the bottom but you can customize the clock face, borders etc... i think it looks sweet

Guys may I ask for a quick favour please?

If anyone on here has an Officially Unlocked iPhone from Italy, could they please check their Model number on the phone.

It'll be under: Settings - General - About - Model.

The reason I ask is that after doing some research before updating my phone it transpires that some handsets are actually from the USA and have actually been unoffically unlocked.

Mine being one of them - even though it came direct from Sata SRl in Italy!

My model number is MB048LL - which is an AT&T number SO if I go and update it to 2.2 it'll automatially lock up again

on another note; to all those who have had the b4lls to update to 2.2 - how are you finding it? I keep reading so many faults associated since updating to 2.2 that I'm still holding back.

Below are just some of the faults a lot of people have had:

Disappearing Apps, both Apple and Thrid Party.
Loss of WiFi connectivity.
Loss of 3G and or Edge signal strength.
And worst of all…..
Inability to sync with iTunes.

Oh, and Google Maps in KM ONLY!!! No ta!

Not seen anything like that since updating - in general connectivity is better if anything, and so is battery life. Email fetching is more reliable too. Basically no downsides at all except, now that you mention it, Googlemaps does appear to be KM only, which is a bit annoying, but not the end of the world (for me).

Mine's a 100% legit, standard, un-jailbroken, O2 UK phone though.

Scouser, if it's offically unlocked, it'll stay unlocked forever now matter what. Because it's hardcoded into the phone's baseband.

Apparently this 2.2 update overwrites the baseband. And that's where the problem lies.

Your other option would be to update to a Custom Firmware (which will also jailbreak, which has NOT had the baseband updated in it. This can be produced on a Mac using Pwnage Tool.

As far as I was aware though, there still is no way to "unnofficially" unlock these phones (aside from the piggybacking SIM methods) - they either come out of the factory unlocked, or they don't. So if yours is unlocked it must have come out of the factory that way, and that should surely be recognised and respected by the official update process?

If you're sure that your handset is not an "officially" unlocked phone, then how did whoever you got it from unlock it, and can it be done again if the upgrade locks it? If it can't then send it back, since the phone isn't "as advertised" in any case.

Worst case scenario, if the update locks it and you can't get any joy from the seller, you'll just have to invest in a "turbo SIM" or similar, as that remains the only way to "unlock" an iPhone 3G for any price.

@boinng....

there is an unofficial way in asia. they desolder the baseband chip and reprogram it and then resolder it back on. this unlocks the handset but once you update and it writes the baseband it is relocked again.

costs about $100 to get it done.

From my understanding, there are officially factory unlocked iPhone which are sold by Apple Stores, and also officially unlocked ones that carriers sell in specific countries where they are not allowed to impose a SIM lock on the phone (ie Italy). The carriers are granted permission to have these unlocked, and when for instance a firmware upgrade is performed, it communicates with Apple servers that that particular IMEI has been granted unlocking privileges and it'll unlock it/not re-lock it or whatever when it is activated... But... i am not sure whether it will affect it if it recognises the country your itunes is registered to, OR the fact that the model was originally an AT&T model which was sold in Italy.

Best thing to do if you want to upgrade is use a custom firmware like i said, with the option checked NOT to update the baseband.

Scouser... did you have to activate your iPhone in itunes when you first received it, or was it already activated?
