According to HTC's spokesperson, "This is just a rumor and there is no truth to this statement." For now we're moving along.

I'd doubt that would actually have the liquidity to purchase HTC - proxy voting shareholders wouldn't allow it given SE's past 2yrs track record vs HTC.
HTC manufacturers VARIOUS models as OEM still as a core business to providers and other manufacturers.
HTC also has sold more smartphones than SE in the past 12 qtrs.
HTC has a wider market, and currently I see nothing from SE that would properly manage HTC's Andriod projects.
SE can better spend their money elsewhere - like if Motorola's Cellular division DID get sold off all those manufacturing plants and ppl power in UIQ division of Motorola would be a HUGE assist to SE and fits their core business. Also contracts with providers would be better managed by and they would be better intrenched with providers for more partnership sales.

Sony Ericsson's second? That's weird. I thought Samsung was. |

Naah, something's wrong there. We just had first quarter results from the major manufacturers and the picture couldn't have suddenly taken such a dramatic turn.

SE can IMO..they have the bucks to do that allright..With Sony in the fray..they can buy HTC and let them manufacture smartphones as an independent entity while SE carry on with the UIQ work..I daresay then that this will be the last of the XPERIA series...
btw pleasent surprze there..SE #2..cool.. |

LOL! Allow me to question those statistics, and say that they are nothing more than the statistics of the users of that website. Seriously... N70 and N73 should take up 10 % of the market? Meh, I doubt it.

Don't think anything like this is gonna happen. HTC has many things planned for this and the upcoming year and if I'm not mistaken they're doing quite well with their smart phones (not the best but still good). So I don't see any reason for them to sell the company off. |

It would make a lot of sense from SE's point of view, for years they've been just a bit-part in the smartphone market, whereas ownership of HTC would put them right at the forefront. There's a certain amount of synergy there already, obviously they've worked together on the X1 etc, and are moving more in WM's direction. The dissapointing Paris proves they're not exactly investing heavily in the UIQ. Meanwhile HTC are trying to get increasingly sexy and stylish with the Touch Diamond etc - getting SE's stylists involved might help there. If the cash is there, it could work.
