Just a random question. is it possible to use the built-in FM Radio on a W950 - or another phone with FM Radio - without plugging in a wired headset?

I'm getting quite attached to my Motorola S9 bluetooth headset - despite problems initially connecting it to my phone - and don't want to have the wired headset adapter plugged into my phone just to listen to the radio.

Maybe a software hack or hardware hack?

I just think it'd make more sense to be able to use the phone aerial instead - after all, when you are on a call, you can still recieve text message alerts.

its a very common question here on Esato but as the headset cable acts as an antenna then generally you should assume the answer us no

some people have had some success by just using the plug part of a headset to fool the phone into thinking the headset is connected but generally you get very poor reception

hmm.....

well in that case, I've got a cheap multi-headset adapter from Tesco, which goes to a 2.5mm socket, might rip the Sony Ericsson bit apart and wire a long cable onto it.

Might then rig the makeshift aerial onto my mountain bike frame with enough slack on the plug end to plug into my phone which is in a small handlebar bag.

Really? I'd love to see what that looks like!

Please post a pic when it's finished.

you can get adapters to fit in the fastport to change to 2.5 or 3.5mm jacks instead of cutting your cable apart

If I'm not mistaken, you don't have to plug your headset in for the radio to work on the W980, but that's just for W980. I wonder what's the big deal in putting the antenna in when it's a common technology with other manufacturers.

mode,

No, they removed that feature, as it was too buggy and they generally experienced some problems with it. Unfortunately.
