Nah, just try it on your pc. Set it to 16bit and 24bit, you hardly tells what the diffrenent.
Event theres a diffrent its only a slight. You woldnt notice it anyway when you concentrating doing your application on your pc.
Its the same for mobile device, i think the one the one that make the color seems beautiful is [Contrast, resulution and dot pitch] color depth is also have count but maybe not a significant one.

I notice a difference on my desktop, the icons shadow is darker and looks very jagged, and my background picture does not look smooth, so for me I notice quite a difference.
On a small 3" (yes small compared to a computer screen) screen like the X1 I think it will be harder to tell the difference.
Current mobilephone: P1i and my now old K800i, and before that W800i, V800i, Z600i, and T310. Waiting for X10. |

the reason why is because WM is a piece of junk. it's so inefficient that it has to run on lower colours just to prevent it from slowing down to a snails pace.

as opposed to other 'mainstream' OSs with at least 1% market share. for example, the tip of the iceberg can be glimpsed by comparing the hardware requirements of other OSs compared to WM and then doing some benchmarking.
