Sony Ericsson has stepped up its music marketing campaign by signing five-times Grammy award winning artist Usher to promote two of its new Walkman handsets.

The marketing push, to be rolled out from June onwards, will span over 20 European countries and includes sponsorship rights for Usher’s full European tour later in the year. The singer will also be charged with publicising the W350 and W980 MP3 player handsets.

The move represents a further advance in Sony Ericsson’s focus on music, after the manufacturer recently announced it is in the process of expanding its PlayNow service.

John Bernard, Sony Ericsson Music Marketing Manager, said: ‘Working with an artist such as Usher is an ideal fit for us. Here we are at the start of an electrifying launch campaign, poised to deliver a totally 360 degree experience for all consumers and Usher fans alike, it’s truly an exciting prospect.’

Tell the 15,000 people who loved his performance at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend that it's not a good move.

He has a MASSIVE fan base.

Thats what would of made the decision on.

You fools in europe only have craig david to compare. All hip top ten hits couldn't compare to usher's 1st album. You also haven't heard what he's been doing with colaborations either. He's 2 platinum artist!

People who diss Usher are tone death. You really have the worst taste in music if you don't like the songs that Usher sings.

Usher's latest single -- Love In This Club -- now #5 in Billboard Hot 100 and previously gained #1 in thic chart before overtaken by Leona Lewis.

His previously albums such as Confession or My Way also tops the chart in US.

IMHO Usher is more popular than Craig David, world wide.

Why wouldn't a company sign someone who's albums make multi-platinum status worldwide?

At the end of the day, it's business.

I think I was misunderstood. I was refering to Usher as being "a platinum artist".
