k810i - Only VGA size under Frames in Shoot Mode? |
stillwater Joined: Apr 16, 2008 Posts: 8 PM |
I don't know if there is something wrong with my k810i. It can only take VGA size under Frames in Shoot Mode. There is no setting to change the size from VGA to 3MP or 2MP.
Can anyone help to see if VGA is the only size under Frames? It will be great if someone can confirm it is a bug or it's just my phone. Other than this tiny problem, k810i is a solid phone. Appreciate your help and thanks in advance for any advice.

The answer is simple - the picture frames (the overlay ones) are in VGA resolution. |

Thanks, wise one, that's a great answer. 100 marks to you.

I'm not sure if you're being ironic or not, but if so, then you should be grateful to get a reply rather than being a jerk.
The overlay files (the actual frames, that is) are only VGA resolution, so if you'd want to up the ante and make them 1280 x 960 pixels or even full 3 MP resolution, that would make them terribly pixelated.

Mizzle,
I am seriously not trying to be rude or funny with you. I was just blaming myself for not figuring out what you had suggested, as you did really sound logical. I even took your suggestion and made 3 funlayers at the k810i's defaulted sizes. 3mp at 2048 x 1536, 2mp at 1632 x 1224 and 1mp at 1280 x 960. Unfortunately all of them still turned out as VGA at 640 X 480 under Frames.
The real irony is although you are wrong, I still value your suggestion and advise, but I don't think you calling me a jerk is fair. I am just a man having problems taking decent quality pictures for my young children.
Now, I have 2 problems, I still can't take higher resolutions photos of my children under Frames, and I have to figure out at which point of my email did I insulted you that much to be labelled a jerk!
Luckily this is a public forum. Whatever is posted, members here can read and decide who is the jerk who is walking around with a stick up his bottom and a wee bit sensitive.
Anyway, I hope we still can be friends.

I said that if you were being ironic, then you acted like a jerk. As I said, I couldn't tell, but now that you've confirmed that you weren't being ironic, no problem
And with regards to your other problem, there's no way of changing it, as far as I know. Not even by modifying the firmware.

Hey Mizzle,
thanks for taking time to reply and advise. Actually I was being ironic and self critical, so I still don't understand how you can equate ironic as being a jerk. Even if I was ironic or a jerk, my messages weren’t crude or rude to anyone, least of all you, I don’t even know you personally or know that you will reply and get confused of my intention. My intention was to seek advice, so how would I dare to be rude anyone, correct?
I wanted to write a fair comment so I did a search on your handle “Mizzle”. Hoho, guess what my friend? You are quite a celebrity! You were right some of the time and there were times you were wrong. I support some of your views, but other times you can be quite a nasty dude.
In all fairness, some times people said nasty things about you too, and I do feel sorry that you were on the receiving end of unfair comments. Perhaps that’s why unconsciously you tend to a wee bit anal and paranoid, just a wee bit (hope you find some humour in what I said as I am imagining myself running around trying to remove a thorn in a lion’s paw, or alternatively remove a stick in someone’s backside). As a humble newbie, I have decided that you have more good advices than bad ones.
I am a new poster and this is my 4th message. I have followed the rules of posting, make a search, avoid repetition topics, be sincere, courteous and thankful for any help given. Sure you are entitled to negative comments about a new user, but you shouldn’t be so quick to post to the world your negative thoughts and feelings, until you know you are dealing with a real jerk. I think new guys should be given a break, agreed? Any constructive criticisms and advice are welcomed but do leave the unnecessary negative comments elsewhere as it does leave a bad after taste, know what I mean?
Anyway, whoever is reading this topic, it is confirmed that a bug has been founded in k810i. I know it’s a bug because design wise k810i is more than capable of taking better photos than VGA (640 x 680) in Frames under Shoot Mode. Sony Ericsson made a fun phone, but didn’t bother to make sure this feature works better. A real disappointment to children and fun party people.
Any of our Mobile Phone God out there who can correct this mistake? Hope someone can take up the challenge as this is beyond my humble abilities.

man he never actually called you a jerk. He's only saying that's the case if you happened to be making fun of him. tbh, if you'd replied to me with a comment like you gave mizzle, I'd have also wondered if you were making fun of me or not.
regarding the possibility of a hack for the size of frame mode I think I've seen this done with a camdriver, but can't remember for sure. Check the camdriver threads.

Like I said, I was unsure if you were being ironic or not. Had you been ironic, then I'd have considered you a jerk for that message, but had you not, then of course, you're no jerk
Sorry about the mix-ups. And welcome to Esato!

the frame mode is only used in VGA... no matter your phone is k810 or 800... |

You still don't seem to understand that this is no bug! It's just that the images of the frames are in VGA resolution, thus limiting the picture size to VGA as well. You see, these are no vector graphics, but simple bitmaps - they cannot be stretched to 2 or 3MP without becoming terribly pixelated.
Although you are right that it's SE's fault for not creating the frames in the maximum resolution available to the phone. |

Being that they are bitmaps, they would get gigantic in terms of size if they were in 3 mp resolution. Besides, it would mean a lot of processing on the phone.

Nightblade, thanks for your comments. I do agree with your views but I think bad pixelation is not more important than trying to get over the hurdle of VGA.
Again, i would like to reiterate that I started this tread hoping to confirm whether there was something wrong with my phone. If there is nothing wrong and when my phone is taking VGA when it is capable of taking 3MP, I call it a bug for lack of a better word, not lack of understanding. Actually, I should call it neglect, thoughtless or even shoddy work on Sony Ericsson's part. Still, whatever it is k810i is giving me endless hours of fun. For all it's worth, I do love this phone. Right now I am having a blast trying to figure if it can be made to take 3MP in Frames.
With your input, I took another step further. The default funlayers are png and not bmp. Each is 320 x 240. They are therefore vector graphics and are stretched to 640 x 480. When Mizzle commented I should up the ante and I did, I made 3mp, 2mp and 1mp funlayers (see my earlier reply to Mizzle) also in the same format, which is png. They didn't work. So logically, it means this problem is not due to the fault of the funlayers, the limitation should be a setting in the phone.
Anyway, I will give it a go again in my free time. It's fun trying to work this out with you guys and I will be very pleased if I can contribute something back to this forum by solving this, but I have to concede that you youngsters are much better than me in these things.

Mrianwatson, you are so right, I am stupid, otherwise I wouldn't be asking for help to solve this. In fact I think you are the smarter than most of us. How about you taking this opportunity to prove yourself by teaching us how to solve this?
