She currently has an CPW O2 contract, but they are not offering the purple phone, so how best to do this? Oh and she MUST keep her number... She is not a heavy user, so PAYG on a sim free phone is probably a viable option, but is there a better way she can get this phone AND keep her number? O2 is best for coverage at our home, and best for not having to x-net call all the time. Thanks.

You most likely won't ever get it on contract with anyone other than CPW because it's a cheap little low end phone, and theres simply no need for it to be on contract.
