Hi folks, I have read this forum on and off for the last couple of years as have had many SE phones and have found the forum a great help in many ways but have never posted.
I wonder if anyone has any advice for a faulty K850i,
I basically and foolishly bought it off some randmom guy off the net and didn't do a full check when I bought it and unfortunately the switch for the camera to switch between cam/vid/player doesn't work. Works once every blue moon and is stuck on player at the moment so I can't usee the camera..

Does anyone reckon it could be a software fault and maybe if I reflashed it would work or is it more likely a hardware fault with the actual switch?

Any help is seriously appreciated.

Thanks

what's your current firmware?
from my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing.

Does the phone look like it may have been droppped? It might indicate if its a hardware issue or not.

Any indication of a housing swap that may have gone a bit wrong?

Didn't you get a warranty with your phone?

Cheers for the quick responses folks,

Whiteye, current firmware is the 029 one which I think is an old one??

Goldenface, not sure if it has been dropped, I was given some story it is a refurbished handset, the buttons do have some wear. I have a gut feeling it may be an ex shop demo one as I think the guy worked at a 3 store.. not sure though. Everything else on it works ok, the switch itself moves ok, just doesn't do anything...

NightBlade, I guess I gave up hope of a warranty when I bought it off the guy as I stupidly didn't get that info :s

On my K850i it takes a little effort to push switch from one mode to the other - its has a solid feel. Does your switch slide or click? Does it feel loose at all?

I've not heard of this as a software issue before and if it was a ex demo then it might just be wear n tear.

the switch slides, I'm guessing if yours and others are a little harder to move then I bet it is a hardware fault. You still have a slight click though when slotting between the 3 options.

i reckon I have been foolish and taken for a mug when I bought it. :s

grrrr... just on the phone now to 3 and their answer is to switch it off and take the battery out and then try again :s
as if that wasn't tried the minute i knew it was faulty... grrr

I suspect it's a hardware issue too, it'll prob. need sending back to se to be fixed
