It will work with the latest firmware. I tried it myself and using it always..

After a restart indeed it worked...

I think you're refering to the autofocus feature for video which could be accessed using the same trick. It's a shame that from R5A17 onwards SE discarded a very useful feature resulting in out of focus and blurry videos from then on
