I think alot of people tend to see Windows Mobile as a operative system primarily for business purposes, which is why I'm currently _really_ interested in seeing their strategy with the X1's marketing in relation to the launch of the "P5i"-handset.
I have problems seeing alot of "serious" users using the X1, I think they'll find this phone to have too much of a bling-bling character.
Strange is what it is, but alot of fun and bloody interesting.
Cheers! |

Interesting in that FAQ video he clarifies that its aGPS not built in GPS - so it seems it doesn't have real GPS, just the aGPS software capability. Looks like X1 users will need that GPS headset after all.

He is referring to the imaging phone not the X1, and aGPS is assistedGPS if there is no GPS built in what exactly is it assisting???

I dont see why itd need the headset. Not only functionally, but that would be silly design, having to have a headset plugged in when all you want is the GPS function, the headset would just get in the way, as youd have the handset on the dashboard or something. Also, would this headset work with the 3.5mm jack? Dont think so. How else? Beats me. |

I may not understand aGPS, but I think its a service whereby a mobile phone could use a fixed base station to improve accuracy and speed, and reduce the need for on-phone processing power by doing some of the GPS signal processing at the base station. The base station can use the phones cell-site to help pinpoint it, and thus reduce the time it takes to get location fix.
I'm assuming that it would let the phone, in conjunction with an external GPS unit, improve its accuracy and time-to-fix...
If the X1 had proper GPS, surely they would make more of it? Its still not that common in phones that people take it for granted... theres no mention of mapping or location based services.
I'll have to watch the video again when I have a moment, check which phone he is talking about. Since its an xperia FAQ, I assumed thats what he was refering to.

Precisely my thinking. You can't have aGPS without having GPS of some kind.
It's kind like of like HSUPA. If you have that, the assumption is that you also have HSDPA. |

Nice'n'all, and I'd buy it rather than the P5 I'm planning, except it runs Windows.

Imo:
X series to compete against all WM devices
P series to compete against Iphone and Nokia N95 or Prada's stuff...
I crazily wait for new P5i!!!!!! |

Don't forget the HTC "Touch" devices. They are Windows Mobile but include "iPhone" style features.
I think major functionality (Windows Mobile) coupled with great multimedia skills (Xperia) will result in an awesome device.
I really like this sort of package in my Touch Dual.

Guys, the GPS is listed under the "connections" tab on the spec sheet. In combination with the fact that the GPS headset is listed under compatible accessories, I would assume this means there is no build in GPS? |

Quite right Coxy, this is a great device for sure, but TBH it is a HTC device with an SE badge stuck on the front
