Expansys will have the X1 in stock on October 10th, 2008 (In the UK) and then Expansys USA will have it in stock on October 13th, 2008.
I spoke with a salesperson from Expansys USA on monday. |

@ Hansen:
I don't think that that is a prototype box. Looks pretty official to me. I think that anything after September 30th, we can call it official. |

that review was put up before the 30th.
it may just be a retail box. i think they even mentioned it was a proto???

A lot of reviewers make excuses for new phones, saying they're "probably" prototype firmware etc - in reality that's usually what gets released. The X1 certainly won't be the first smartphone to be released with less than optimal software and performance, and anyone expecting it to be super slick at this point is likely to be disappointed.

Yesterday I watched an unboxing clip featuring the final box. It looks much more elegant, using the panel pattern as a decoration on the front. I can't seem to find it right now, though.

Sure, but that one even came with only seven panels, so I'll believe that particular reviewer when he states "proto". |

That certainly the case. Actually, I have never experienced any smart phones that is super slick during its first release (and sometimes even after release for a while)
The ones I used were: Samsung Blackjack WM5 and WM6, Imate JASJAM, HTC Touch Dual, HTC C730, Nokia n95 (just seem to be getting worse), Palm Treo 750.

Its been a long time since I have seen so much lag on a device that seemed to be running nothing more testing than its standard mode, if that is it at its best I am right, the X1 is all just a load of hype.
If you look at the pictures of the phone with the battery taken out it says Prototype build P-Q2. So it's definately a proto, dunno how close it is to the final product though. It should be pretty close considering how close it is to release, but it isn't impossible that Q2 stands for Quarter 2 (tho I have no way of knowing).
Anyway, I've preordered one and am really excited, even if I don't have a ton of expectations on how good it will run. It's my first smart-phone too, so I really don't know what to expect.
It's also available at a few online stores in Sweden (PC-City and Elgiganten). |

According to this:
With the speed of the animation of the prototype would be worse, but what can be seen in the accompanying video is one of the things that are in the final Xperiích significantly improved (see video at the:: unwired). (copy/pasted from the site)
this is very much a proto. even more, the unwired people had the xperia with newer/latest rom. |

Actually i took a look at the Handago X1 page the other day and was wondering what happened to all the apps that were being made for just the X1? as although there are loads of apps they are just the same WM apps as before. Same thing goes for where are all the custom panels that were going to create this all new user eco system any sign of them anywhere yet?
There's a panel competition going on currently. I don't expect to see any of that stuff at launch. On the fun & downloads site, there is a Panels link (it was inactive last time I checked (Sep 30, 08). Also, during the 45 minute video with Magnus, he says that the release X1 will have a panel download service available straight from the phone.
So there should be something available, but what, I don't know. I wouldn't expect anything too exciting right away...just typical WM apps being "panel-ized" like SPB Mobile. |

Phones 4u have a good 3D view of the X1.
Also, they have a measure feature.

The screen is 6.8cm by 3.8cm.

For people in the US, www.smartcellshop.com will ship the X1 out on Oct 6th, Im not sure if they do international shipping or not. For anyone who has questions you can shoot them an email, they usually reply within the hour. Just my 2 cents on all the questions about shipping eta's... |
