All rumors at the mo...
"Taiwan-based and always well informed Commercial Times today reported, that HTC (High Tech Computer) has received ODM orders for Windows Mobile-based smartphones from Sony Ericsson (you know - the guys behind Symbian-based UIQ), which will market the new smartphone in the second half of 2008. Volume shipments of the smartphone - Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile-based smartphone and HTC's first ODM orders from a first-tier handset vendor - are expected to top over one million units"

I don't suppose they designed it, although they may have designed the internals - but it's no surprise that they're making it, or at least it shouldn't be. They have the expertise which SE lacks in Windows Mobile, and they've been known for some time to be working with SE. If you were paying attention to the rumour mill, you knew an SE Windows Mobile phone was coming, and that it would be built by HTC. The surprise is that it's been announced now, with no hint of a spy pic or specification beforehand.
Personally, I'm impressed so far - as someone that left SE's ailing smartphones for a HTC Tytn II last year, this could well be my next upgrade - a serious piece of WM-powered kit with SE style. Of course, it's all in the timing - SE/HTC need to get this onto the market soon, because it's not so far ahead of the rest that it couldn't just be trumped by HTC and other's own Winmo devices by the time it comes out.
Incidentally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was based on similar internals to the Tytn II. With the right driver support etc (which they should have in place by now) the Qualcomm chipset should be quite capable of driving a device like this.

Once in the past it was a big news when the first tri-band GSM phone was announced: GSM 900/1800/1900. A true world phone!
But now XPERIA™ X1 is 8-band phone!!!
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 900/1700/1900/2100 MHz
(or UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz)
Wow.. Really wow |

Actually 65k is a disappointment. They should have gone with 16 million. That does make a difference.
SE can do that, but WM doesn't allow mroe than 65K colors similar to all WM-based PDAs around. i hope you understand that
it does actually.

Well,
It is a Super piece of kit - absolute Genius on Sony Ericsson's Part - kudos to Sony Ericsson!
We are looking at a release in April/May/June timeframe - expect some pricing structures announced in the near future.
DVD Quality Video, on a 3 Inch Screen - if its anything like the OneSeg service in Japan - we have a Winner on our hands!!
Either way, the X1 is going to be a hit with Serious Windows Mobile Users - and now, with all the windows gubbings inside, Apple, Sony Ericsson is out to get you, they'll locate and Mow you down!!
If Sony Ericsson launch the X1 anywhere within their specified timeframe (Usually we see handsets available anywhere from mid April onward) - It will be available for my Japanese stay!
Oh yeah, off topic slightly - C902, SO902i
Enjoy the Xperia X1 - I know James Bond will, after all - this is bound to be his next gadget!
Sony Alpha.

the press release says "The Sony Ericsson XPERIA™ X1 will be available in selected markets from the second half of 2008." which could mean anything from July to December

Yeah, hopefully though it will be closer to July than it is to December. I can't remember the case with the iPhone, but it's a shame SE aren't able to follow the example of Apple with regard to their other products, i.e. they announce it on a Friday, and it's in the shops on Monday morning.
Still expecting the X1 to be very expensive, so for the moment I'm still planning on getting a G900. Plenty of time to change my mind though

And unlike many OTHER Disbelievers; this following message is to Peter Kay.
Peter Kay; I doubted you! And I was wrong and you were VERY spot on with accurate information. Hoping that you understand with such VAGUE posts and keeping us to believe you had inside information - its VERY hard to believe you in that regard since you never mentioned that you were bounded by NDA disclosure. Furthermore; I then began to believe that it WAS possible you had inside information because on an older thread I had the VERY last post to the effect saying "All SE needs to do is check the blgos and fan sites of informational posts leaking details and then check the location of said posters and BOOM they can pretty much deduce the source of their leak. At that time you barely posted ANY info in such an abrupt manner. So my apologies for calling you out.
Hey man, no hard feelings here
The information i try to give is just a taster for you guys and a few hints here and there, i cannoy just give the specs out due to restrictions but hopefully many will agree with what was disclosed.
Now, i won't be posting in the P5i rumours thread (due to people calling me names) but i will say that they will also beleive me by Wednesday evening
WOW, yesterday was awesome

Very pretty...SE can't actually release a UIQ device with this kind of hardware then(oh yes, more waiting)?? :\\
Also, what about TV OUT function(long overdue)?? Stereo speakers - or is it not that multimedia-based(yet - hooray - it actually HAS a 3.5mm jack)??
Well, at least the XDA devs will have it cracked, hacked, and eating fish through a hoop within days......
