@MYB87
I don't think you're right about that at all. Because in my area AT&T 3G is solely 1900MHz. |

tell me exactly what it is you need more internal memory for that you can't do on a memory card?? My iPaq is a workhorse, it has 64MB internal but I have about 50 apps installed, and this has not slowed down the phone one bit.
Firstly, you cannot assume the user will always have a memory card in use. Also, what happens if some people installed all this application on the memory card, but for some reason he has to change the memory card due to various reasons, now because he installed in on his card, he could no longer use it .
This is a joke. How the hell anyone can say a phone is not a workhorse just because it doesn't have multi-GB internal memory is beyond me. It's got more internal memory than 99% of WM phones on the market or nearing release, other than those phones with with no expansion.
btw, applications can be copied from an old card to a new one (without reinstalling), so it is most definitely possible to change memory cards.
large internal memory is designed for multimedia orientated handsets, not for "workhorses". Eg: Innov8, W960. That's not to say a workhorse can't be used for multimedia, you just need a nice big memory card.
I use my W910 for multimedia - it has 8GB. I used my K800 with 8GB since over a year ago. My Samsung with 256MB RAM has an 8GB sdhc. I've had a 8GB available in my phones for ages and I've never had a problem with swapping cards and needing my applications at the same time. If I have multimedia on a card I swap it out to view the multimedia, then put my original card back in.
I'm not arguing against someone who prefers large internal memory, but to argue that the X1 fails as a workhorse because it doesn't have 8GB is a failed argument imho.

Hey which part in my post did I ever say the X1 fails as a work horse?
I was only pointing out that there ARE benefits of having a larger amount of internal memory,
And you cannot always expects people to be able to copy things from memory card to memory card.
On the Imate JASJAM that I use sometimes it list the internal storage memory TOTAL as 49.33MB, and without installing much, I am only left with 5.45mb.
I would definitely happy to have amount larger than that. And looking at the specs of phone memory of about 400mb, it is defintely enough for my needs (I just want to be able to install my common used applications onto the phone memory without using a memory card)

It wasn't you, but mode, who originally started this debate about internal memory size.
Sorry, I was just continuing that argument, I thought you were too.
As you say, 400MB is enough for commonly used applications. This is how I use my samsung WM phone - I install commonly used apps to internal memory, others to mem card.

I wish it had more storage because then i wouldn't have to download and delete my emails all the time. It would be really nice to have all my emails downloaded and ready to read which obviously amounts to more than 400mb, so internal memory-wise, it's just as good as my 64mb, 2 year-old P990.

hmm, I see your point. I looked at this with regard to syncing mail with outlook, and realised that my outlook mail file is 3GB plus, and came to the conclusion that for now atleast, even with large internal memory keeping all my mail on the device is not practical.
Note you can elect to keep attachments on a memory card which helps a lot if your mail space shortage is because you want to keep lot's of emails that have picture and video attachments.
Also, if you archive outlook to say the last three months or so, and save attachments on the card,then there will be more than enough internal memory on the X1.
If you don't use outlook and are only talking about email you receive straight to the device, I'd be surprised if you'd need more than 100MB for email storage if saving attachments on the mem card.
Failing that, if you are prepared to hack the registry, you can save ALL email as well as attachments, on the memory card.

Have notice the HTC Touch Dimond, Pro and HD all sport a back button as a hard key. Anyone used this on the Dimond ? I was wondering what the exact funtionality of this was and if something like it will appear on the X1.
Thanks JD
If you look closely at the recent X1 video reviews, you'll see the left soft key is used as a back button Consistent with many phones.
@whybe
Thanks, I hadn't seen that but I guess that as it is a soft key it will change function depending on the app you are in. I think I would still like a hard key like on the P1 but hey you can't have everything. |

The developer: X1 is certanly a Sony Ericsson mobil
Xperia X1 is manufactured by HTC - the taiwanese Windows mobile specialists
- But it is an Sony Ericsson mobile, says Magnus Andersson, who has lead the development of X1.
- Its no secret that we make use of HTC's manufacturing facilities and part of their development. But it is a Sony Ericsson designer who has made the physical design and it is our specifications, our trade mark and our user experience, he proceeds.
It is not the first time Sony Ericsson lets other companies manufacture their mobiles, but it is the first time external help was used for one of the more advanced phones.
Contrary the rumors about delays, Magnus Andersson says X1 is developed in accordance with the time plan, which he is proud of. He is also satisfied with that the mobile was presented relatively early at the mobile trade fair 3gsm World Congress in february.

It's the same with any OEM who uses htc. If you look at any of the major OEM's who use htc they all have their own distinctive looks and form factor. Look at iPaq's for example. They are HTC's but yet all iPaq's have a unique style different from any other WM oem.
There are even differences in material qualities. You can get el cheapo HTC's such as XDA, or more expensive one's such as HP.
It's obvious that an OEM retains control over many factors related to design and production.

BengalBoy has video of CoPilot 7 with (voiced turn-by-turn) running on the X1 while he's driving. It's near the bottom of this page under the header, "On-board aGPS (assisted Global Positioning Satellite Mapping System..." There's tons of pics and videos on this page so give it a few moments to load.
