the best things about windows mobile 6 over symbian are
1. OS is more open and hence more options at customisation

They have the best application list, but this is just a miniscule of what is available

issues i have seen
1. stability wise , wm6 still lags a long way behind symbian and even the uiq3 is better
2. requires faster processor and hence more battery usage
3. interface is not great but can me molded
4. OS is much slower than symbian
MOST OF THE ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED IN WM6.1 and an announcement in this regard is expected in this congress
the leaked images of wm6.1 looks amazing

i didnt recognized, that wm os is slower then symbian os... also very satisfied withh battery standby time ( htc trinity compared with e60 for example or e61i or n95 )

I'm quite impressed with this one, 3" screen, have always loved QWERTY sliders, and I do understand the implementation of WM6 instead of UIQ4, probably to balance out new hardware with a tested OS. Connectivity is great with microSD, mini usb and 3.5mm jack that's been here for a while already though, just something SE finally picked up. Quite curious how the panels work, coz it might just make all the difference and put SE up there again in innovation. Feedback on processor and RAM seems promising. But I guess G900 really surprised me, a full touchscreen candybar, I'm sure no one saw that coming and if it's stable and affordable enough, it'll be a sure hit without a doubt. All that being said, I'm just happy the P-series is here to stay

I'm not sure if anyone knows that the 3.5mm jack is official yet. If everyone believes this based on the picture of the hole at the end of the phone, that may be the port for the stylus. I am getting my hopes up for 3.5mm, but I have a feeling that is what the slot is for. Hopefully I'm wrong. |

i mean that was announced a few months ago that they would do that, but man im happy about that this phone has NO SE design language on it at all, its seems to me that i was justified in thinking it was ugly, now its stands to reason that it was HTC ... and WM6 hmmm.
bring on the P5 ... watch that announcement be in december, knowing esatos luck with predicting announcements HAHAHAHA, amirght!? |

Hoping that you understand with such VAGUE posts and keeping us to believe you had inside information - its VERY hard to believe you in that regard since you never mentioned that you were bounded by NDA disclosure. Furthermore; I then began to believe that it WAS possible you had inside information because on an older thread I had the VERY last post to the effect saying "All SE needs to do is check the blgos and fan sites of informational posts leaking details and then check the location of said posters and BOOM they can pretty much deduce the source of their leak. At that time you barely posted ANY info in such an abrupt manner. So my apologies for calling you out.
Now ppl is this model OS Agnostic? I recall reading something to this affect over the web but cannot recall a link to it.

X1 looks similar to the snapdragon prototype shown on engadget months ago. i suspect this phone has 620Mhz CPU and is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor(anyway snapdragon CPU utilizes Ati imageon graphics! )

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced the U380 mobile platform delivering a true mobile Internet experience and empowering consumers with advanced multimedia features. The U380 is an integrated and verified one-chip HSPA platform, supporting all major Open Operating Systems on the market and the first product based on the recently announced Open OS collaboration with Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE:TXN).
By integrating Ericsson's HSPA modem with [b]TI's high performance OMAP3430 applications processor into a one-chip solution, the U380 is among the smallest and most powerful multimedia platforms on the market in this category.
With support for all major Open OSs, the U380 will provide mobile device manufacturers with a robust and flexible architecture for applications and services deployment, enabling easier delivery and management of services and content. This enables handset manufacturers and mobile operators to differentiate their products through rich, easy-to-use and customizable user interfaces. The extensive verification and IOT testing performed by Ericsson will also enable manufacturers to rapidly bring highly advanced mobile devices to the mass market while reducing risk and lowering development costs.
Robert Puskaric, head of Ericsson's mobile platforms business, says: "This is truly a next generation platform for the rapidly growing Open OS market. The combination of powerful multimedia performance and Open OS capabilities in an extremely small package makes the U380 platform hard to match."
Richard Kerslake, general manager for the TI-Ericsson business, TI's Wireless Terminals Business Unit, says "The combination of Texas Instruments' and Ericsson's key competences has really paid off. TI's OMAP3430 processing power, coupled with Ericsson's HSPA access technology in a pre-verified and tested platform supporting all major open operating systems will provide great opportunities for device manufacturers worldwide."

Now the U380 Platform "may" be available in the first half of 2009 - but that is making it available to OTHER manufacturers; remember Ericsson makes platforms for many other providers ... including the U600 which will feature MIDP3.0 with the ability for Java Apps to startup upon a fresh bootup (MIDP3.0 is still being ratified, but also allows for multiple midlets to run on 1 VM just 1 ppl co-existing and EVEN sharing data amongst one another and ALSO for midlets to run without a GUI ... so one midlet can get network information and input it into a calendar running another midlet. S60 platform has some competition from SE's future feature phones - but THIS is for another thread.)

Stop blaming windows mobile for the shortage in hardware specs our dear x1 has. windows mobile is capable of displaying more than 65k colours. it is probably too hardware demanding for the x1 to do it.

I was under the impression WM didnt allow for/handle more more than 65k. Im happy for you to prove me wrong, that way i can give the right answer next time  I wasnt aware of the change in WM support!
Instead of jumping down my throat, how bout next time, you post me a link, stating that WM does indeed support more than 65k, and a reason as to why no WM phone has more than 65k colour screens?
