Look at this new aircraft....
Boeing is preparing a 1000 passenger jet that could reshape the Air travel industry for the next 100 years. The radical Blended Wing design has been developed by Boeing in cooperation with the NASA Langley Research Center . The mammoth plane will have a wing span of 265 feet compared to the 747's 211 feet, and is designed to fit within the newly created terminals used for the 555 seat Airbus A380, which is 262 feet wide .
The new 797 is in direct response to the Airbus A380 which has racked up 159 orders, but has not yet flown any passengers. Boeing decide to kill its 747X stretched super jumbo in 2003 after little interest was shown by airline companies, but has continued to develop the ultimate Airbus crusher 797 for years at its Phantom Works research facility in Long Beach, Calif.
The Airbus A380 has been in the works since 1999 and has accumulated $13 billion in development costs, which gives Boeing a huge advantage now that Airbus has committed to the older style tubular aircraft for decades to come.
There are several big advantages to the blended wing design, the mos t important being the lift to drag ratio which is expected to increase by an amazing 50%, with overall weight reduced by 25%, making it an est imated 33% more efficient than the A380, and making Airbus's $13 billion dollar investment look pretty shaky.
High body rigidity is another key factor in blended wing aircraft, It reduces turbulence and creates less stress on the air frame which adds to efficiency, givi ng the 797 a tremendous 8800 nautical mile range with its 1000 passengers flying comfortably at mach 0.88 or 654 mph (+-1046km/ h) cruising speed another advantage over the Airbus tube-and-wing designed A380's 570 mph (912 km/h).
The exact date for introduction is unclear, yet the battle lines are clearly drawn in the high-stakes war for civilian air supremacy.

Great stuff but the A380 has flown passengers.
Will this make any cheaper to fly down under though? I doubt it.

Welll actually I got this MAIL from an old friend who is a commercial pilot for a decade now . . . it was SENT to him by his-fellow airline-pilot (local-association), so I guess this is a REAL thing . . . futuristic that is.

this one is actually quite old, nearly 2 years old
the image comes from a conceptual picture from a Popular Science article about the future of aviation...
read all about it

Its a fake!
According to Wikipedia:
In May 2006, four concept designs being examined by Boeing were outlined in the Seattle Times. Codenamed after the well-known Muppets (the design team is known as the Green Team), the designs concentrated primarily on reducing fuel usage. All four designs illustrated rear-engine layouts.
* "Fozzie" employs open rotors and would offer a lower cruising speed.
* "Beaker" has very thin, long wings, with the ability to partially fold-up to facilitate easier taxiing.
* "Kermit Kruiser" has forward swept wings over which are positioned its engines, with the aim of lowering noise below due to the reflection of the exhaust signature upward.
* "Honeydew" with its delta wing design, resembles a marriage of the flying wing concept and the traditional tube fuselage.
As with most concepts, these designs are only in the exploratory stage intended to help Boeing evaluate the potentials of such radical technologies.
Planes take several years to develop and so I doubt that since May 2006, Boeing have moved far from these four concepts. Anyway, a quick internet search proves the 797 in this thread to be a fake. 797 is more likely to be a 737 replacement anyway, and it is likely to use a tubular design like the 737.

As someone who works designing actuation and fuel management systems for the aerospace industry I can assure you that nothing like this has made it any further than the concept stage I'm afraid.
