Pocket-lint is able to confirm that Apple and O2 are to launch a 16GB version of the iPhone in the UK today.
After rumours began circulating on the web that the larger capacity phone was due to hit O2 stores on Tuesday 5th February, we took a trip down to our local O2 emporium on Oxford Street.
An O2 spokesperson has confirmed to Pocket-lint that the 16GB version will go on sale in the UK today for £329.
The shop staff had the 16GB version on their computer systems, showing as launching today.
This compares to £269 for the 8GB version, the only model that's been launched so far in the UK.
The official time for the new phone to go on sale is 1.30pm, when we can expect official releases about the new model.

Think its deceptive as if you go to a store in the US they charge tax on top ie 6% in NY i think but can be upto 15% in other states. |

Even 269 for 8 gig is unjustified imo. Ok so they bumped the minutes allowance but they still dont allow it on a 12 month contract and apart from an extra 8gig its the same phone underneath, no improvments whatsoever.
The only good thing I can think of is that Apple will announce a price slash for the 8gig model soon. Or maybe they will wait 3 months and then drop both by £100

I have to agree, even though I have to try and sell it, that it's a stupid idea.
The people who are buying the 8GB iPhone don't have a clue how to put videos on it, don't tend to want to put that much music on it, and generally from about 90% of the customers I've spoken to don't want to know, because they bought it because they thought it was 'cool' but don't give a flying monkeys about the features.
That, ladies and gents, is the beauty of Apple's marketing team, sell it to people who don't need it or won't use it
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |
