GW1 = Generic World 1 = a release of the phone firmware that is not specific to any mobile network or country. It's also the first release to be updated to the latest version publicly.

XS++ = freeware software for the pc that, amongst other things, allows you to change the CDA of your phone.

CDA = A code embedded in the current firmware of your phone that tells SEUS which release to update your phone with.

The upshot being that if you change the CDA of your phone with XS++ to GW1, then update via SEUS, you end up with the latest publicly available firmware on your phone.

Find the software and info here:

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16338

Stuff about CDAs here:

http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P1i

Best of luck!

P.S. Appologies to anyone who thinks this is all rather OT, but our man/woman in Amsterdam did ask....

Pt020,

Do you have the latest Netherlands version?
Personally I'm thinking of switching back to that version (if possible..).

Are there any issues you want to solve? Or do you just want to have the latest as you think it's the greatest?

I'm quite pessimistic about new firmware updates for P1i with all the new phones being announced...

AD, how do I reflash with SEUS? Do I use XS++ to change the version code?

I've made a backup file with XS++, if I restore it will SEUS install the latest local software on my phone?

Thanks for your help!

In theory that sounds right, having never done it myself though I can't be certain. I'd ask @gbrooks3 as he/she's one of the creators of XS++.

About your problem restoring. I experienced the same thing. After updating the Suite and restarting both the phone and computer I was able to restore my backup.

Thanks for your replies.
I'll look into XS++ more carefully tonight.

About the backup/restore: I've tried all the usual suspects; re-installing PC suite, rebooting phone and windows, deleting previous backups.
This error is a bit different form others: it doesn't even start the backup/restore procedure it just gives me an error almost instantaneously saying "Phone failed".

Has anybody found fixes for the email dialog and the strange links in the webbrowser?

That would be great! I don't know Mizzle; does he have legitimate info?

EDIT
For those who haven't read Mizzle's post: he claims a UIQ3.2 firmware will be released for P1 and W960.

Mizzle's post here.

BTW, I noticed that on my phone the green led next to the fastport connection no longer flashes when there are new unread messages.

If I'm not mistaken, on my previous firmware it flashed continuously when a new SMS was received, and kept flashing until the "read now yes/no" dialog was dismissed. Now it seems it only flashes once at the moment the SMS is received, but not after that.

Did anyone else encounter this?

Has anyone noticed any issues connecting to bluetooth headsets with this firmware. My set paired fine and is marked as "trusted" but the phone seems unable to autoconnect when the headset is switched on.

@meptik: Just tried it (sending an sms to myself) and you seem to be right. It keeps flashing for a few minutes and then stops... Think I preferred the old way as well.

Just tested mine - the green light is flashing away happily... - stopped once any other button was activated - in this case I moved the scroll wheel but have not interacted with the Yes/No dialogue box...

To those who can't backup, this is the easy fix:
- Delete (or move to another folder) all backup files in the backups folder.
After that, the backup works.

=> REMEMBER to also backup into Outlook is you want to be sure you will not loose all your contacts if the Restore fails !!!!
It's never enough to stress out this fact => Restore can also fail !

Ah, that's probably it. I was also moving the scrollwheel when I checked it to keep the backlight on. I suppose that's also an ok way to implement it: the light will flash until the user touches the handset.

Now that you mention about any key being pressed, I'm also not entirely sure anymore how this the green led worked on the previous version. Maybe it was the same. I just assumed it only went away after confirming the dialogue box, but I can't say for sure. O well...

About that flashing LED...Not a good idea that pressing on any key cancels the flashing. Let's say that you have your phone in the pouch and you want to check if you got any calls or messages. You take your phone out of the pocket and accidentally press on a key and you don't know about it. Would be much better to be related on a popup box...
