Couldent you rename the atrac3 file with qfileman and then tranfer it or does magic gate go into the file and look for info about it?

@mr miu
nice summary but wrong as ALL forms and variants can play and ado play as pa preference atrac3 !!
its frickin sony's proprietary format vs mp3 !!
the ONLY differenece between the two are that the magicgate ones have DRM tech niside it so u can only copu it to and from a device a maximum of 3 times or summet !!!
stop making stuff up and read the following pasted from SONY website :
Magic Gate Memory Stick
For both copyright-protected content and personal
content and data.
Memory Stick
For personal content and data only.
ie one has DRM (Didgital Rights Management) one doesnt !!

This statement is somewhat misleading. While all of Sonys solid state music players (Network Walkmen or whatever they call it) use ATRAC3 compression instead of MP3 it don't mean that Memory Sticks use it for anything. Since they just store whatever data that is put on them. Even MP3s.
Magic Gate is some kind of DRM technology that is supposed to make sure music (primarily) isn't pirated. And it follows the same rules as MiniDiscs I think. Where you can copy only once unless you recorded the signal yourself. How they do it and how the Magic Gate thing works I have no clue. I just hope it don't have any influence on how it works with other types of files. Since it seems we will only get Magic Gate Duo cards for the time being. And not plain Memory Stick Duo. |

So has anyone actually had an MG MS Duo working in a P800? |

AFAIK the P800 doesn't support the Magic Gate DRM. But the Magic Gate memory sticks should work anyway, but without DRM... |

the DRM tech used in mem stick is independent of the device it is in !! the tech is designed so that u can only copy a track so many times from the mem stick, the DRM software is in the mem stick and independent of the device ie p800
it would be a useless tech if it was device dependent as everybody wud just by non drm compliant devices to use their mem sticks thus completely making the tech obsolete for corsp tryin to cut otu piracy !!
@tiran kenja
spot on mate indeed all mem sticks will support atarc3 or wateva else u throw at them
@all
on the memorystick.com site there is only pics of magicgate duo's

Has anyone tried sticking a regular memory stick into the P800?
Ok so it would stick out but at least it could be used temporarily while sitting on a train or plane in order to listen to music.

Unfortunately that wont work, MS Duo is not just shorter, it is also thinner.

First: ,a question mark (?) means: true?, correct? and so on, and
not that people making stuff up!
Second:
confused!!!!!!!!!!
" The magicate has oads of in built copy protection limting the amount of time you can copy files from one destination to another"...
Files... All files, atrac3 files...?????
VS
"Magic Gate Memory Stick - For both copyright-protected content and personal content and data.
Memory Stick - For personal content and data only."
For me, this means that non copyright-protected data has NO limting the amount of time you can copy files from one destination to another = MG MS DUO will work fine for files that is not copyright-protected, which means all files, except atrac3 files!
? (question mark) |

Ok, but do the magic gate MS duo's actually work in the P800. Is that a stupid question? No where i have seen has directly answered that, but perhaps that is because no one has yet to buy a non-provided duo. However if SE have them surely they are being produced in quantity?? |
