OMG.. i just bought T650 and the light sensor just so sucks. Everytime I enter a room, the light sensor works and decreases the screen brightness up to 50%! It sucks. Cause K770 light sensor only decrease the brightness up to 10%, so it still provides a bright screen to see and enjoy, yet consumes less energy.

K770 - T650. Both with ACTIVE light sensor.

T650 ambient light sensor is just useless. What's the meaning of having a bright screen if every time you go into your room, you can only see your screen at 50% of its full brightness? I can tell you it's very dark, and like seeing your screen in "dim mode", only you have 100% brightness set on the display setting. *let's curse on T650 light sensor*

Anyway.. I compare the screens both in very bright condition, so the sensor won't work (inactive). The screens have very similar quality. They are as bright as each other, almost have the same color reproduction (you cannot tell the difference unless you look closely). But the light sensors make them very different every time you use them indoors. Too bad..

Is there anyway to turn the light sensor off with some modding? (i know it can't be turned off through the menu/option) With flashing a new firmware maybe?

My T650 firmware is R7AA024.

Hmm this is actually a sign that your K770 one isn't working. When it's dark, the phone should set the display light to a lower value in order not to irritate your eyes with the light. T650 is ok.

It's already set to 100% brightness.

Of course the K770 is working. I can tell there's difference between when it's active and inactive - coz I tried covering the K770 sensor with my finger and the brightness changes to a lower value - it gets dimmed in a very propper way. And it's working good.

T650 have a very dimmed display when the light sensor is active. It's very dimmed, even K750 has brighter display. LoL.

@Lunion
What's your T650 firmware btw?

This was my first thought. So I changed the display driver with K770 R8AA display driver, but nothing changed.

I can say I'm really disappointed coz I really love T650. It fits well on my grips, the keypad is amazing, the design says it all. The display in outdoor is brilliant. In bright room, it's also brlliant. I just wonder if i can change the behaviour of the light sensor so it works more in a propper way, dropping some level of brightness around 10-20% only.

My T650i dims in a room, but its far from being too dark or unreadable. Its perfectly fine and doesn't blind me in the dark. The biggest problem I find is that when the display is dimmed, the whites are more yellowish, giving everything a very slight yellow tint. Its not really noticeable unless you compare it to another display. On full brightness the whites appear normal. I wouldn't call this broken, its just a characteristic of the backlight lamp. It is slightly annoying though.

Well it's really annoying to me since I owned K770 first and the light sensor behaves far better. I lately do some research. K770 light sensor decreases 10% brightness in bright indoor, decreases 20% brightness in rather mediocre lightings, decrease 30% brightness in a very dark room. This is what I like.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the same behaviour with T650 light sensor. That's why I really am disappointed..

If you have one a K770 too, I think you would know how it feels.

Anyway.. I flashed the T650 with K770 firmware, but nothing changed.

Sucks because cannot determine the level of the dimness of the environment. In other words, it's supposed to decrease gradually, not from 100% right to 50%. Why gradually? Cause not every dim room have same level of dimness.

First release of K770 is working this way. The sensor decreases gradually. If the room is not so dim, it only decreases one or two level of the brightness (means the brightness stays in 80% or 90% of max brightness). It saves energy consuming yet still has logical brightness for the environment.

When the room is really dim, then it decreases down to 50% or 60% or 70% of max brightness. This way, it's working good and logical.

T650 doesn't work this way. It's only either 100% or 50%.

However, new released K770 has the same sensor with T650.

I have not noticed any problems with my light sensor.

Actually i didn't know the fone had the light sensor

my w890 had a visible light sensor that I could cover and see the screen becoming dimer.
