@mib, great comparison.. Only few questions and comments, if you don't mind. What's the point of it if I cannot see on the screen what is actually on the photo? And if you print it out will you make it of that size? I mean, they're side by side, I don't want to laser-slice the hair now, but to be frank both of them are great. Just Nokia has color saturation on default that I do not like. I'm talking only about camera here.
Edit: These photos are point&shoot?

Who still prints out photo?
Many people nowadays see their photo on their computer monitor or their big HD screen. And photo shrunken 10 times (like those posted by plank) just doesnt cut it as it barely fills up 1/4 of my 21inch monitor.
When viewed at full resolution, K850 photos obviously suffer from bluring, pinkish tint, chromatic abberations and excessive noise. As it stands now, K850 photos are inferior to N82.

@ mib, It is not that bad. You are being a bit biased
Anyway, there is a chinese saying "People who do not have for an apple will say that apple is not tasty and sweet." So I better close my mouth (lid)

I do.
Don't know why but recently I just bought the LG Viewty for my dad and it comes with a Canon photo printer. I'm beginning to like the printer so that we can put pictures in the album and just show it to others.
Anyway, I can't see much difference between pictures taken with the K850 and N82 except for the 2nd comparison. The picture taken with the K850 seems to be overexposed, don't you think? But it does give more details on the tree.

Not much really between the two phones really but great pics from both.
It looks to me like they both exceed in some areas where the other doesn't.

Both phones are sold at the same price here in Muscat (OMR 210 = USD 550) and since the camera quality is fairly close; some of the K850i's photos are better and some are worse, I would choose my phone based on overall features. And the N82 would definitely be the winner: VGA video recording at 30 fps, built-in GPS, Symbian S60 OS. Just a shame that the N82 is so ugly and that the keypad looks like taken from an old Casio calculator I had twenty-five years ago...

in contrast here in my country where K850 is about 3-5K cheaper than N82. and yes ai agree N82 keys looked ugly and the overall design looked dated if i were to choose with a phone that was same specd as N82 i would choose N95 8Gb or the cheaper E51/E65(I don't mind the camera)

Camphones can't manage large dynamic range cos they have 8 bits ADC. either sky details can be captured or ground, but not both. DSLRs have 12 bits ADC. and different light metering systems will lead to different results. in that pic K850 used slower shutter speed(i can't see EXIF but i can predict) so sky is washed out and ground is brighter. a good comparison should consider this, taking pics under same exposure.
and as we should know, post processing is an important part of digital photography, just like dark rooms in conventional photography.
N82 + PP:
that pic is shrunken and touched by esato to write its watermark, give me the full size and see what i can come up with
last note: all 5MP camphones(CMOS based) are inferior to a 3MP like K800.
EDIT:
now i can see EXIF
N82: 1/250
K850: 1/125
one full stop difference!
and what is this?
N82:
ExposureTime : 1/250Sec
ShutterSpeedValue : 1/250Sec
K850:
ExposureTime : 1/125Sec
ShutterSpeedValue : 1/64Sec
K850 shutter lag?

1 pic..........N82 looks little better (1 p)
2 pic.......... k850 looks quite much better (1p)
3 pic......... N82 and k850 have the same quality (1p + 1p)
4 pic......... (the oranges looks horrible with N82)...k850 look much better (1p)
5 pic......... k850 is little sharper (1p)
6 pic......... N82 and k850 have the same quality (1p + 1p)
----------------------------------------------
k850: 5p
N82: 3p

itouch & mib, as you really seen the link i've gave above ? (mobile review)
It's real size and auto mode pictures on both phones !
Did you notice blurry areas in the N82 pictures and this brown/yellow tint ? Ok K850i have a purple fringing, a bit noisy and grainy but you really prefer nokia pics ?
I don't speak here about wi-fi, gps, symbian things...only pictures camera ! I'm not like some that are part of the Nokia "the company" like prison break the company lol I had a N95, and i thing the K850i have a better camera in 75% of cases, more close than a real digicam.
Of course it pump you out that people says things like that,
But I do not find honest read constantly that the k850i is much worse for his camera than the N82.
It's more easy to make good pics with the Nokia ? Maybe but the most important tips to apply with the K850i is reduce exposure a bit in some cases in daylight.
So, watch the mobile review comparison in the N82 review... |
