Sorry for the long essay on this, but It's a problem that I really want to know if anyone has encountered before and I wanted to detail as much of it as possible.

I've had my K850 for 2 weeks now and this evening I felt that it was running perticularely slow so I decided to reboot it (the term Reboot seems applicable since the damn thing can be as unstable as a computer...) Powered it down normally (hit top button, select shut down) gave it a few moments and then powerd it back up. I wasn't really paying any attention to it while it was starting up but I did see first the keys light up and then it going to the Sony Ericsson screen. Next time I look down the keys were lit up again and the screen was blank, 2 seconds later the keys went off and NOTHING! I tried pushingg D bad around, I tried htting some buttons - NOTHING! I tried powering it ON (since it looked like it had powered off) and nothing again. So now I knew something was VERY wrong since I've had a similar experience with my old K790i. I took the battery out, put it back in after 15 sec or so and tried to power it back on but this time I watched it - same thing, keys light up then go off, screen comes on with Sony Ericsson and then just stays there - I left it there for maybe a minute and then it turned off and the keypad lit up again then off and back to NOTHING....
Now - like I mentioned I've had my old K790i lock up and had pulled the battery out to reset it, after which it was pretty much bricked until the nice folks at UnlockCellular.com fixed it for me. But this time I HAD NOT pulled the battery out - I just had powered it off and then back on!
Left the bar early because I was PISSED since I paid $400 for this POS and this would be the 2nd Sony Ericsson to go south in less than a year (and total of $850 later mind you!) Got home, pulled the battery, in again, power on same results... Did that a dozen times after which I put the battery and plugged the charger - phone came on and said Charging! YES! I thought I'd reset it - but no, it wasn't fixed... still the same problem if you try to power it on. Pulled battery - back in and plugged it into my PC - it got recognized and showed me the devices in my computer to browse - the phone even came up to the Mass Storage screen and I was able to browse the content of the folders, but after Proper disconnect and reboot still nothing.

Last resort - SEUS - started it up and went through the process (remove bat, hold C plug in when prompted etc.) and it said I didn't need to update but offered to continue any ways, I accepted and it went through the update. Once finished my phone is workingg again!!!

Conclusion - What in the world happened? Is the operating system on these phones so freakin unstable that it has chance to tank just on a freakin reboot????? I had an HTC TyTN which I upgraded from WinMo 5 to 6 and tried MANY different WM6 roms and NEVER EVER crashed it in such a way that I couldn't recover it! Like I said - this is the 2nd SE phone which has exhibited some VERY strange failures and crashes so I'm not very happy even though it's working again.

Take this as me venting some steam and also trying to find out if anyone else has gone throug this Charley Foxtrot...

Well, I haven't went thru with it, and I have it for a month now. What you have said is probably some missing link, like os was searching for something relevant that has to be there on the startup but it couldn't find it.

You need to get used to this bugs, I guess. Wait for the new update or just sell the phone. I am sure there are better performing phones on the market

When you say that the phone was slow just before restarting it did you downloaded any item from your PC before getting slow? Because sometimes if you unplugg your SE phone from PC it could brake an internal file and you end with a phone with ''operation failed'' when trying to run a game or apps OR a problem similar to yours!
It can happen after 2 weeks of usage ,after 1 year or even never!
You are lucky that it still connected to the PC and use update, some people didn't have this chance

The phone seemed slow when going through the camera menus, since I've only had it for 2 weeks I am not sure what I should expect and my previous experience with my TyTN was that if you reboot the phone a lot of memory gets freed up and operations are typically snapier. I have Always done a proper disconnect of the phone when having it connected to my computer before unplugging it and I have never interrupted a file transfer to or from the phone so I'm not sure that this applies. I'm just frustrated because these phones should NOT be this fragile when it comes to basic operations (power off/power on) or even a hot disconnect - I recall the K750 had some Serious issues of potential WSOD if you pulled the USB plug without proper disconnect, but even that phone has lasted me for over 2 years now with lots of messing around (FAR Plug-in menues, cam drvers etc) It just seems like these newer SE phones are less and less stable and this is a great disappointment to me.

I'm just curious if this is just a fluke on my phone or if this is a common occurrence. Today I was trying to show off Marble Madness to a friend and I got the dreaded "This application uses too much memory" message but then again I had been running several Java apps before hand such as Nav4All and Google Maps so I figured maybe a reboot is in order. Shut down, waited a few, booted up and here I am looking at the Sony Ericsson screen for almost a full minute! Finally the phone did come up to the selection screen for Normal or Airplane mode (or whatever it's called). Still I'm starting to dread any reboot on this phone
