Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the Panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.&n bsp; Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around...after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.....This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

we don't all live in crime ridden places..

I know plenty of people who don't lock their cars, let alone sleeping with the keys.

Blimey, I think we're going to move to Dorset then! We live in a flat above a shop and there have been three break in attempts in the past six months. One of the little buggers tried to break into my flat, presumably thinking that there are stairs down to the shop (which there aren't). Luckily, the sight of me in my boxer shorts holding a 10" chef's knife when I opened the door was more than enough to scare him off. I don't think I even needed the knife...

Round here, they tell you to keep your car keys with you because there have been several incidents of people breaking in to property just to nick the car keys

We had some customer in work who had the keys in the ignition, the doors where unlocked and the windows where down in the car park. So a supervisor went out and did the decent thing took the keys, closed the windows and locked the car. Went in and spoke over the whole shop to let the person know and got a right mouthful from them saying they always did that and how dare they lock it up. They'd soon be kicking off if there car got robbed, the muppet.

You've been beaten to it cyco...

Dorset is filling up with Northerners... They've finally realised it's nicer dann safff (said in a proper Southern accent)....

I know I don't always lock my car, esp when I go into a petrol station, leave the key in.........

and no that isn't an invite to come and steal my car.

If you think that's good, my ex never used to lock her house! but then again she lived in the proper proper sticks....

What if your car doesnt have a car alarm?
Car alarms are supposed to go off after 20 minutes in the uk so they dont go off all night and get on everyones nerves.
In my experience people ignore car alarms anyway. I have seen cars with alarms going off in cr parks and nobody bats an eyelid.

London (which is down south) has far worse crime stats than ANY northern region, The north encompasses the Lakes/cumbria/Yorkshire dales/Scotland which believe it or not offer a really wonderful place to live WITHOUT the snobbishness or the prices encountered down south
