And it WASN'T a mistake!
From the BBC:
"A Canadian man has been shocked to receive a mobile phone bill for nearly $85,000 (£41,000).
Piotr Staniaszek thought he could use his new phone as a modem for his computer under his $10 unlimited mobile browser plan from Bell Mobility.
He downloaded high-definition movies and other large files unaware that this incurred massive extra charges.
Bell Mobility has since lowered the bill to $3,243, but Mr Staniaszek says he intends to fight the charges anyway."
Full story.
I'd love to have seen his face when they told him it wasn't a mistake

The data network must be pretty good in Canada if you can download HD films over it without having to wait a year or two!

I couldn't help but laught at this but...
on ba serious note. The 'Unlimited' (and yet completely LIMITED) data packages that are sold to consumers by the networks are so out of order. Its an oturight lie and they are getting away with it. Where else can a company advertise something that is completely untrue and be allowed to cite the small print as their escapre route from sanctions.
Netwroks should clearly state exactly what you get for your money and everytime the word 'unlimited' appears in their advertising they should face an unlimited fine... decided upon by the poor sods who were taken in, in the first place. i.e. the customer. |

Absolutely. It's very, very wrong indeed
But sadly it appears to be the trend these days. Internet service providers, PC retailers, landline providers, budget airlines... Everything seems to end up costing more than they advertise these days

Hi all,
Well from my understanding the Canadians have some of highest Data charges around they make 02 and Voda's offers look positively amazeing. Even so that is one heck of a bill.

I agree. However, I think the example of the networks is significantly worse than the one's you highlight. The internet service providers imply you will get a faster connection ('up to 8gb'); the airlines charge for all kinds of extras etc...
But the networks are telling a downright lie - Unlimited data actually equals Limited data.
Really annoys me... my business wouldn't stand a chance if I treated my clients like this.... Ok, rant over. |

I can never understand how something can be advertised to be unlimited yet have fine print stating the limits. It's contradicting for sure and telcos shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Besides, shouldn't there be a cap on the maximum charges for data usage? |
