Does the xenon flash count? Not sure what else you'll lose but they're really very similar phones, in terms of features.

Hi, I'm also in this quandry. I've had my K800 for a year now and it's great but just a bit bulky. If I change it to a K770, will I lose any functionality at all (camera aside)?

Flash and zoom aside, i dont think you'll lose any functionality(as long as your k770 isnt vodafone ) Ive had a k800 and now a k810 and i'd rather have a 770 than either of these.

@erotomaniac

I'll be sure to let you know how i did it as long as it all works ok

Thanks guys - might give it a go.

I do like the joystic on the K800 though, I'll have to get hold of a 770 to see how I like the keypad. Are the keys generally similar to the K800 but just a different shape?

I assume the screen is the same resolution and any software on my K800 will work on the 770?

Personally I don't mind losing the flash - the flashlight makes up for this.

Also slightly off topic, are there any other SE 3G phones being released soon - really I'm picking the best of what's around to renew my contract but I might wait if there's a good one arriving in the next few months (3 network).

@waldopepper - with a k770 you'll lose infrared. You'll also have a smaller internal memory - only 16mb. Not sure if this makes it have less RAM than k800/k810. So that's about it, setting aside camera-related features. In exchange, you get a sleeker body, a good d-pad instead of a joystick, and a better (if a bit smaller) screen. I've held a live k770 and the display was very pleasing to the eye. The default themes wowed the other people with me at the store.

I asked this in another topic but no one answered so I'll ask again.

Does the blue light line at the back of the k770,the one that lights up when you go to camera mode, only have two bulbs? One at each end?

Also, is it possible to disable or re-assign the internet button? What about the middle button on the d-pad, is it possible to reassign that?

And why is there no k770 avatar on Esato yet? How do we request that?

Had a play with the 770 in a shop and it's really nice - fits nicely in the pocket. It also looks like the K800 charger will work with it so I will now have a spare.

It was only a mock-up copy though so I couldn't see the screen in action. Does anyone going from the K800 to the 770 think the screen size is significantly smaller or have you not noticed?

^dont have a k800 but according to the specs, the difference in screen size between the k800 and k770 when measured diagonally is only 0.1 inch.

@ ryukick

That's one fine shot. can you share ur techniques?

Well got a K770 yesterday and I'm loving it. As others have mentioned it's does pretty much all the K800 does but no Xenon flash or image stabiliser, no infrared and less internal memory. If those are the main sacrifices to make to be much thinner then so be it.
Lovely action on the lense cover, great LED feature on the keys and the back. I've already realised what a pain the joystic used to be - keypad is definitely more robust.
Fantastic screen at all viewing angles.

One thing on the official screen size though, the 0.1 inches diagonal difference (2.5mm). I've just measured the K800 vs K770 and it's actually 4.0mm different (there are black borders not used on the K770).

I noticed straight away that everything on the screen seemed slightly larger and you really noticed the difference apps such as Opera where it adjusts the font somehow and you fit less text on the screen. Yes the resolution is the same, but something is different, can't quite put my finger on it.

Might not seem much a big deal but if you're used to the large K800 screen, going to a slightly smaller screen will be a big deal for some.
Visible screen dimensions
K770 2.8cm by 3.8cm
K800 3.2cm by 4.2cm

One thing though, why the heck can't you map the Up button? It's hard-coded shortcut to the last photo you took. WTF?

yeah, bummed about that too, and not only that, the middle button on the d-pad serves the same purpose as the right function button when you're on desktop mode. I feel it is somewhat a waste of buttons. hee hee
