Is there any software update to make alarm to go off when Sony-Ericsson P1i is turned off? I've noticed the alarm is working only when :

-the phone is switched on
-the phone is in Flight Mode
-the charger is conected with the phone

Nope. Unfortunately, no way.
Leave it on, that's the only way.

I don't know that, but I wouldn't be surprised.
P1 (and other SE Symbians, for that matter) can't do it :-/ too bad

Thats realy shocking for a SE Symbian phone! My W800, W900, W880 and Nokia N80 alarms all work when the phone is off.

In the Blackberry 8800, the alarm would sound even if the phone was switched off. Another cool feature was putting the phone to sleep at a pre-determined hour every day - saved battery and I could sleep peacefully without unwanted SMS/calls disturbing me at night! I miss both those features in the P1i!

Yup, that's annoying I must say. I got used to turn off my phone during night, and that used to give me a day and a half more on a phone that used to make 2-3 days on a charge (Motorola). And that is 50% increase in battery life, which is not "just a notch".
If I could turn off my cell at 11PM and have it wake me up at 6:30AM, that would give me 7,5 hrs of stand-by more per day. Now I make 4-5 days on a charge, I guess this way I could make a whole week. Not to mention battery's life cycle of approx. 2000 charging cycles (most of todays batteries last that long before their life shortens too much for them to be comfortable to use).

It makes perfect sense, and it's been this way since the P800 in 2002. In SE's hardware platform for its Symbian phones, there is no timer running when the phone is off, it's just off. Full stop. Therefore, the alarm programme cannot run.

In the more basic phones, the hardware design is totally different, and includes a watchdog which ticks along even when the phone is "off", allowing it to check for alarms and power up when necessary. The UIQ phones don't have that, simple as.

Nokia's later S60 phones may well have it, but SE's don't. See how this is working?

Honestly, this has to be one of the most asked questions in this forum, it's been asked about the P800, the P900, P910, M600i, P990, W950, P1, and now the W960 no doubt - but the answer's always the same! No alarms when it's turned off!

It's really no great hardship, if you are one of these weirdos who insists on turning their phone off all the time, just get in the habit of using flight mode instead. Same difference.

You know what else? If you put any of these phones on silent, the alarms won't make a noise! Amazing isn't it! Silent means the phone is silent! That also seems to confuse a lot of people...
