I have a new SE P1i, not the P1c (I've compared my internal IMEI to the IMEI on the box and it's P1i packaging, and I see the phone's branding and it is a P1i).

The menus, the physical plastic keyboard, and everything is in English, and I've selected UK English as the phone's language. However, it seems characteristic of the P1c that I can't change the predictive text language from Chinese.

I just bought this phone from a friend, and I'm weary about his return policy if any. I really really do like the phone although I need to be able to send texts and be able to input in ENGLISH.

Help!

I had the same problem.

On the first start up I only had two choices English or Chinese, I choose English, but still had some Chinese letters in some places.

I think this means you have the Hong Kong firmware, which means your CDA is 162024/74 R6A its the (24) part of the number I think which states Hong Kong firmware. Even updating through SEUS will not fix this.

I fixed it by downloading XS++ changing the CDA number to World Generic 1, I think its 162022, then doing an update through SEUS. (Only after posting here and getting advise from Masseur)

No more Chinese.

My Malaysian SE P1i comes with Chinese as well. Initially, I could only text in chinese but here's what I discovered :

Goto :
1. While keying in text, you'll see three weird looking buttons on your top right part of your screen (to be more exact - it's right below the "back" button)
2. Click on the first one (from your left) - it's got a chinese character on it
3. Once clicked, the chinese character will change and VOILA!
4. English world!

Another option is this. I completely removed handwriting recognition on the P1i coz I find it quicker to type via the QWERTY keyboard. Here's how I did it.

1. Main Menu
2. Control Panel
3. Device
4. Text Input
5. Hand writing - set input method as "Chinese keyboard only" - SAVE

From now on, you'll be only typing in English. That's it!

you're just stuck in chinese input mode.

When you text and it happens again, draw a vertical line from the bottom to the top (of the screen). Have to do it from below that triangle to above it. Its a shortcut to change from chinese to english.

You should also be able to press shift-space to swap between input languages while typing, if I remember correctly.

Hi All,
I had same problem same as yours but in Arabic language. Here is the solution:
go to sonyericsson web site and download the update services tool and update your P1i mobile phone (dont forget that all your data will formatted)
after update go to the sms menu and select message body text and click more, you will see updated menu, select "text options" and select Latin handwriting mode"
Best regards,
