Has the build quality of this handset improved since the early handsets were released? I was dead set on getting this phone but after looking at a mates I was surprised at the poor build quality, creaky battery cover, mis-aligned buttons and now a loose screen. My wifes £80 Nokia 6300 makes this look like something pulled from a "lucky-dip". Come on SE whats going on!

My K850i is OK quality wise, not a patch on the Samsung G600 though, TBH most devices built outside Finland/Japan/Korea can be fairly ropey in my experiance.

Seems like a lot of people are having the back of the phone cracking due to the weak transparent plastic.

^^ IMHO, SE should sail away to the trend. in other words instead of using mirror-like glossy cheap plastic that's prone to breaking why dont they use matte finished hard plastic like the one they used on the early SE high-ends like K750 and K800. this issue in no time could give them so much sales depression from their loyal costumers

Mines pretty good i think....

Compared to others i dont have a creaking battery cover, raised screen or any dust behind the lens (yet anyway)....

Admittedly i dont think the materials used in making the K850i will stand the test of time compared to something like a K800i though.....

My K850i is Chinese made Bobba, but most of the major manufacturers have plants there now.
Finnish made Nokias are by far superior to some of their Asian built stuff, all Samsungs are Korean built and are by a long way the most consistant in terms of build quality.

My Samsung X820 was made in China. The build quality was very nice though. Not a creak to be found.

The last Samsung phone I have that was made in Korea was my R225.

Im on my thrid k850i and havnt had any problems with screen or dust problems. All of them had creaky battery covers tho and this one is no different. To be honest tho, All se phones creak at the battery cover. K700, K600, K750, K800 and the K810 (Altho this one was better)

Creaky back doesnt worry me at all. I just ignore it, if the back drops of, then ill get worried.

Other wise The build issue for me are ok, but for a flagship model. I think it could be loads and loads better.

Time can only tell

On the first 2 I have R1CA029 and both of my phones ended becoming flashing bricks on bootup.

The third phone ive has for 5 days is R1CA037 (O2) and the firmware is no way perfect, but compare to the first 2 its 50% better in my eyes.

I was told SE that a firmware should have been released aprox 2 weeks ago but SE delayed it, I was then told that SE are releasing the firmware in the next 7 days, However im not so sure now.

Im not sure if the firmware will not be released until jan 2008, but this is going to be a major firmware update for all the a200 platform phones

it seems to be very hit and miss at the min.

Se seems to have got the K850i really bad, with build and software.

This is a flagship phone that i dont think is flagship material, Dont get me wrong, I luv the k850i and wouldnt send it back, but ive had better and expect better. This is however just ok.

Im hoping that the replacement to the k850 is much much better, or thats me of to another mobile manufacture next time. and I think a lot have already gone to the other manfuctures
