Just wondering if anyone can help me with this.
My P1i has suddenly stopped connecting via usb in phone mode.
It will connect fine via usb file transfer mode and through bluetooth.

I can synchronise calender, contacts etc via bluetooth but no longer can make a backup or synchronise due to no usb phone mode connection.

I've tried enabling com ports in the phone monitor and also adding com ports in the M Router settings. Also tried the cable in another usb port but just get the same result.
I've also reinstalled the PC suite for smartphones and it is the latest version. My P1's software is also up to date.

Could do with some help on this as I really need to do a backup of the contents asap but nothing has worked.

I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose

@Rookwise

What OS you are you running this on? and when you deinstalled the PC Suite did you install all traces of SE folders and files? or just use uninstall?

Using a Sony Viao VGN-FS115Z with Windows XP home. I did a complete hard drive wipe and reinstall about a week ago.
I reinstalled the pc suite for smartphones 2 days ago and got the above results. When I uninstalled it again I removed everything including the drivers in the device manager.

Only thing I've done to the computer since reinstalling the system is upped the RAM to 1gb. All previous programs have been reinstalled fine and the usb ports also work fine.

Hi Rookwise,

Unfortuantly that doesn't always get rid of everything which can cause a conflict, i would advise going to start then search and then enter Sony Ericsson and delete everything it finds. I think there is a program that does a proper job of it by have no idea what's it called or where to find it.

I know it's a real pain but unfortunately PC Suite and M Router do occasionally cause these type of problems.

When you place the phone in the stand, windows detects new hardware on the USB?
Check on devices if the phone was detected by the system.
When you plug something on the USB, it usually makes a "happy" sound if successfull, and an "unhappy" sound if not.

On my Vista, it takes some 5/10 seconds for the the m-Router to detect the phone.

Just remembered... I had that problem on the old firmware once.
The only way I fixed it was by hardreseting the phone. Fortunately I had a backup from the night before.
It was easy to see it was some phone problem, because other things in the phone also stopped working at the time. Like internet and stuff.

I do get the little sound effect from my computer to say that the phone is connected but M Router doesn't recognise the P1 in phone mode.
Recogises it via bluetooth no problems.

On the m-Router icon on the tray, did you click and select all the ports in the m-Router configuration?

I had this proglem, try pausing your anti-virus program, attach your phone and see if it connects.

I use Kaspersky and I couldnt get mrouter working through it so I have to pause it while I connect and all is fine.

Thats a thought. I've not tried doing that. Although it has worked fine with Norton Internet Security for the last 3 months.

Just re downloading the Pc Suite for smartphones and also the Update service. Gonna re install them again tonight and see what happens. Will also disable NIS as well while doing it.

Still no joy

Deleted everything related on my Vaio as Dogmann suggested. Removed NIS off the viao as it had expired anyway.

Have reinstalled PC suite for smartphones and it recognises the P1 in file transfer mode through the usb. I've enabled Com40 for the bluetooth which connects fine as before.

The phone does what its supposed to do when plugged into the dock. Menu pops up asking to select file transfer or phone mode. When I select phone mode the computer makes the beep sound to say it connected but pc suite doesnt recognise the phone.
The usb connection icon is present on the phone.

@LAU

The only problem i can see with that suggestion is he will lose all the data on the phone unless he of course can back it up to the memory card and trust it will restore in tact.

@Rookwise

Really sorry nothing has worked just wish i could think of some thing else to try, but it looks like you may have to risk Lau suggestion as you seem to have tried everything else.

Have just tried what LAU has suggested making sure I'd backed up contacts and calender to the memory stick first.
Performed full master reset which has erased all preinstalled pictures, sounds etc so they've been lost.

Rebooted the phone, went through the settings as if for the first time. Connected the P1 to the usb and selected phone mode. Get the beep that the computer has recognised its connected and the usb icon on the phone.

Still nothing on the pc suite

Getting fed up now

This is what I would do --- a super-cleanup!
- Uninstall everthing Sony Ericsson & m-Router from the PC.
- Make sure everything's uninstalled!
- Reboot
- Delete the Sony Ericsson folder leftovers on the Program Files directory and m-Router stuff.
- Run CCleaner and clean up all the junk PCSuite uninstaller leaves on the Registry.
- Open regedit and cleanup everything soney ericsson and m-router
- Reinstall PCSuite, making sure you run as administrator
- Reboot
- Place the phone on the stand and wait 15 seconds for some result.

Other ideas:
- Check the contacts of the desk stand and phone.
- Connect it to a different USB port or computer or OS
