ok, I love my w810i (Cingular/AT&T), but am lookin to mod it...
Debrand, Unlock, Flash, etc... the works! I think I got the case mod down (parts on the way for the k750 back) but am wondering how to insert the k750's keypad's to get white glow instead of this god awefull orange.
First off, what can/can't I do? Will Cingular (AT&T) stop me from doing any of this (IE will phone still work with texts and internet?) If so can someone give me a step-by-step MORON proof walkthrough of where to start? I have tried other threads and even other forums, but no one seems to want to check or help the w810i users
Any help is appreciated! THANKS!!!! |

hi
here are some things you might find useful: The flashing/modding thread - All phones - CID 51/52 now supported

no problem man. just do some search before asking. there are lots of threads out there with things you can do to your w810.

@FlawedLegacy
You will lose push email and gain Pop mail.
Personally I use push email alot and has stopped me from flashing.
I much rather have push maill then flash themes. But that's me. Love those flash themes, however refuse to part with my push mail. I use push mail for work reasons and I see every email coming in. A must for me.
I'm also on cingular.

I dont do email on my phone, so wouldnt bother me... text and internet, occasional yahoo IM, but can live without that...
so got those software boys on that, what about me swapping out the k750 keypad with mine? I've heard this done and looked at both, but the 750 has a hole in the middle, will this simply replace and work or is there extra modding needed? HATE this orange! lol |

try to see the link below, although its not exactly your concern, just thought it might give you ideas:

i'm just not sure about the K750 keypad to a W810. the latter simply has more keys than the former. unless of course you want to lose some functional keys in your W810 (think about the Activity and Walkman Keys!)
anyway, goodluck.
cheers!

@flawedL:
the orange backlight that illuminates the keypad is not IN the keypad itself. the keypad sits on another part of the phone called the keypad PCB. this PCB thing is what's responsible for the orange backlight since it contains the LEDs/lights/bulbs.
i'm not sure if this can be done like in old Nokia monochrome units of yore where these LED lights/bulbs are routinely replaced by some of our local technicians here. you must also consider if this replacement would affect the ambient light sensing feature of the W810i as i think the bulbs themselves are in synch with this feature (unless i'm mistaken).
yup, i agree with you and definitely would also want the whitish glow of the K750i's keys on my Fusion White 810i... that would surely be a perfect combination!
cheers, mate!

ya, i knew it was in the keypad pcb, but wondering if any change in this pad will leave us with functionality and a change from the orange disaster... esp as I am modding mine Silver/Black. I'm even trying to find the piece on bottom of the phone (face side) that I can customize (IE where mine says "Cingular" or the walkman logo is |

if you don't want the ambient-light sensing feature, then i think you can actually have the orange LEDs replaced. of course, this is your decision - just wanted to be clear
upon closer examination, they actually look like common LEDs that are available at electronic shops. if you are really dead-serious about this, how about replacing these oranges with the actual K750i's whites?
try looking at cnn.cn for the K750i keypad PCB part where you can get its white LEDs to replace your W810i's orange LEDs.
please try to post some live pics later of your pet project. thanks.
cheers and goodluck!

sorry for the double post, but after looking at all SE's saw that k618 and v630 have near same button layout... can anyone find the pcb mainboard pic to see if the connectors are the same? a possible savior for us w810 orange haters! |
