Do they explain why you failed the credit check? I've been waiting a good while now and they still haven't got back to me.

Thanks kokoko - that was sort of meant for the other people in the thread who did fail it.

Because of Vodafones injunction on T-Mobile germany, T-Mobile have now said that they will sell the iphone without its normal 2 year contract and that if anyone who has, or will, buy their iPhone from T-Mobile can now have it unlocked for use on any network.

999 euro for a unlocked iphone is a useless legal exercise.

Much like how Europe "forced" Microsoft into selling windows xp without the media player --- how many units of that was sold.

Vodafone not suing in the UK --- also signals that whatever o2/apple is doing with the iphone in the UK, it is completely legal.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought since there's one existing no point in creating a new one.

Am I right in my assumption that I can walk into an Apple store, buy an iPhone, unlock it, and use my existing O2 SIM without having to sign up for a new 18 month contract?

Or is it not that simple?

Hey Masseur.. long time no see =)

And how easy is it to unlock these things? Could you maybe point me in the direction of some online resources/guides? I've been looking for a UK iPhone forum but haven't come across any decent looking ones.

I've not done it myself but apparantly there is some free software called ziphone which does it in a couple of minutes

actually I just remembed a thread on HotUKDeals which has info on buying from CPW and getting £60 back through quidco and it also has some unlock instructions

This phone on pre pay yes would be very pricey but Apple need to open up their limits on who can own one of these phones otherwise their sales will fall. I hate the fact that Apple seems to think they are so superior to everyone else and they are the only ones to charge such a high price on a contract and high price of handset and its completely locked to O2 when no other phone is locked with O2 like that. Plus you cant use the player unless activated. Crazy rip off over hyped crap.
