You can still use it with hypersim or some updated "simcard" but you won't be able to use GPRS/MMS functions.

And you've seen and used the handset? I am jetting out to Japan in like, two months, and have this phone waiting for me! having seen samples from my friends SO905iCS in Japan, I assure you - they eat anything on the European Mkt alive!

Hows the quality of the camera, do you think Exmor matches a standard CCD?

Usually I see you defending the K850i but here you're not. Here you're saying that SO905iCS photos are hideous. Then you're saying that these are the same as K850i photos. Doesn't that make K850i photos hideous?!

But I agree that the 905 shots are not what would have been expected after reading Sony's marketing material on the EXMOR sensor... A two year old 5 MP CCD sensor still beats it easily...

do you really think Exmor is by no means comparable to even an old type CCD still? have you seen some sample shots from the phone?

On page 6 of this thread you have this link to some samples shots. And I agree with Lucy'sPower that these are not much to write home about, at least when looking at what is typically the weak point of CMOS sensors: sensitivity.

Compare this 905 shot from the above linked site, with this from a 5 MP CCD camera phone.

its seems in japan that the networks have more of a say over hardware and software than the phone makers

AbuBasim, i didn't exactly mean that the k850s picture quality is headouse...i was just saying that the picture quality of the SO905iSC is a really big dissappoitment ,from all that praise of the Exmor sensor and this phone specifications.....is a really big misfire in the camera department.I mean it haves the same camera quality with the k850 and the k850 haves a smaller sensor a IMX020,and with the xenon flash on the k850 i tend to say that the k850 may be a allaround better camera.First time when i saw this phone i was thinking that he may have the same picture quality of the i-mobile, but it turns out he is not even close.

I just hope that the successor of the k850 will produce much better pictures than the SO905iSC....

More photos taken by this phone.

The colours produced are vibrant but the ensor is really like the k850 version, with many jagged edges and some purple fringing. I really wanted to see photos taken at night time from its lowest ISO to its highest ISO and its LED flash performance.

@razec

The Exmor sensor definately makes for more effective photographs, please note - all images posted by the SO905iCS are taken with Beta FW, and initial release FW - which is never great - Sony Ericsson Japan have since updated the handset, and it seems to have fixed the issues - I will try to post some sample images soon!

The optical zoom already beats k850i and phones made in Japan are way better quality than our normal SE phones outside Japan. The build is damn good. If you ever owned a Japanese mobile before you will know the quality.
