Is Sony Ericsson working on a PlayStation Phone to take on Nokia's N-Gage? There have been rumours before, but the speculation has been refuelled by comments from Sony Computer Entertainment co-chief operating officer, Jim Ryan.
The Economic Times quotes him as saying, "The PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson. Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible."
However, the ET's story strangely suggests that this convergence is likely to happen by, in its words, "the phone being superimposed on the console, unlike camera phones where the camera was put into the phone".
What we think this means is that rather than a PS2 chip being stuck inside a Sony Ericsson mobile phone, it's more likely to be a mobile module integrated into the PSP. Although the fact that the Economic Times refers to "Nokia's Engage series" has us wondering just how reputable a source it is for this kind of gaming rumour.

I wasn't aware of that. There is also the rumour of a gaming type phone being annouced mid-feb although I know this will not be PS branded.

how about a non walkman branded really slim phone, which should be sold for about 229 Euros and be a competitor to nokia's 6300 which is really popular, personaly i dont care if it is just a redesign of w880i or w890i, though they should have released something like that early this year !! |

@ares the truth is that SE has not even announced a gaming phone or even a high end class competitor...So i think we should start wondering more than laughting... (i speak as a SE fan..)

I real hope that SE announces these 3 UIQ phones soon. People are starting to loose faith in SE smartphones. Their Entire 2007 lineup was basically rehashed versions of the 2006 lineup. People are loosing interest in their phones. My K790a is getting old and I need a new phone from SE but want a Smartphone (K850i doesn't have enough extras to justify the cost when I could get a N95-3 or N82).

So no crappy rehoused k850 is going to see the day. (maybe a thing like K800->K770, BUT NOT LIKE K800->K810)
And it is probably going to be UIQ because of this: (an ad i found in sweden's largest newspaper for engineers)
Three times optical zoom is rumored but not confirmed (would be stupid to not include it) And wlan is also a thing a phone that is going to be one of sonyericsson's flagship phones next year must have..

1. - 2.4" is too small for touch screen (UIQ)
2.Why will SE go right to succesful of K850 and not anncounce a K850's redesign? does that mean K850 wasn't good for them ,that it didn't worth redesgin ?
3. How will look the design of the phone? similar to K850? because A200?
4. 7.2 MP? I don't care about MP ,I want bigger sensor than K850/K800 and it will nice also CCD.
I would be suprised if SE will anncounce K850's succesful in 3GSM/february.

Uiq doesn't need a phone with touchscreen to work, look at motorola z8.

Nope, no need for 7.2mp but it would sell, and SE needs to be the first with this so they don't loose all SE-fanboys..
(I agree with you that nice optics is way more important)
I guess noone have seen this phone (peterkay?) But I think it would look like the spy-pic with 3x optical zoom, 5mp and k800-like lenscover. |

I also think they should improve the quality of the sensor rather than adding pixels. 5 MP is more than enough. |

Well, N95 didn't disturb them to release K810 in 3GSM .
