Good luck. And write back how it goes! it is worth to give it a try if there is no risk involved.

You should post a link to the eBay page so we can all give advice on it. Someone here may know the seller and be able to tell you if they're trustworthy, or we may be able to spot if its a fake!

I always thought using the camera to perform accelerometer functions was preferable because you dont need as much hardware. It makes it more versatile (even old phones can make use of it) and your phone can be that much lighter and/or thinner. I hope this use of the camera extends to autorotating in UI menus and such. Gesture controls would be nice too, but not at all necessary. Its interesting to read that the technology will be available in september. So will project capuchin, and so will Paris & Co >D.
Sounds like SE are bit by bit delivering what we want to see
Looking forward to it

Yeah... Won't that tech require decent lighting? So it would be useless in the dark right? Not saying its bad, as anything is better than nothing. I'm just saying it doesn't quite replace an accelerometer's functions and has a few problems.

we are talking about everyday life situations...i am never in a complete dark situation, and that should work in all the other conditions...even in complete darknes, there is the photo light...so, donīthink there are such problems

but of course, it wonīt replace completely a proper accelerometer, however it will alow to do most things usefull

It means it will only be implementable on phones without a lens cover, so Cybershot phones will have to have accelerometers fitted or a non-active lens cover that you could open without starting the camera and use it's motion sensor features.
I have a dig bick

Well, say you're playing a game at night while in bed or in a dark room... Then it wouldn't work. Though I admit those situations don't really come up often.

Also, not all phones have a photo-light so thats not a complete fix. Its all very phone-dependent I guess. Nothing wrong with that though, its some cool extra functionality.

Video-call cameras are never covered up, maybe there will be an option to switch to that one.

@apolloa

the G900 is out in Germany since the 26th of May. Maybe you can order it from an online shop over there? The prices start at 335 € as of now.

That's what I was thinking as well. It's also facing the correct way to detect the light from the screen on the user so it will even work in the dark!

But the camera doesn't need all available light. IMO just a single moving dim pixel is enough for it's reference.

But u as it's visual reference must refrain from unecessary movements while using this feature don't u think??
