for a guy like me who puts premium on the camera part of the phone, this "dust" seems like bad news... hope SE people clears this once and for all so that everybody would be enlightened

i still love SE phones!

well if the dust was there once there is a chance it will be there again....if it bothers you that much then replace it.....but surely if it comes and goes it will be easy to blow out?

maybe try opening the battery "hinge" and blowing upwards towards cam lense when there is no battery in.....maybe this will solve any dust probs?

how many k850 is it around the world (for the moment)...100000, 500000, 1000000 ??....i dont know, but i know its many. and i think most of this "1000000" k850-owners havnt got dust under their screens.

the only person ive read who got dust under the screen is one guy here on Esato...there is maybe 40-50 k850-owners here on Esato....so the chance to get dust under the screen, seems very small.

see you

@plankgatan

Well maybe you should read again as it is not just one person and really you think a million K850's have been bought already? how many are like yours bug free i wonder? or are you going to say that's just one person as well? Just look around the Forum at how many people have a problems with their K850's and how many threads there are on the different problems.

Even one spec of dust under the lens cover can affect an image. Especially with flash photography. If one bit of dust gets under the cover in matter of weeks/days imagine how bad it will be in couple of months - especially if you carry the phone in your pocket. Consider dust getting under the screen cover - it's the same effect, one day you notice a spec here and there and then next thing you know there is dust everywhere. It would seem to me that there must be some flex in the back cover and plenty of openings for dust to find it's way in. Therefore, a simple foam seal around the camera lens is not going to stop dust finding it's way to the lens. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a real problem.

I still don't understand why SE went with an exposed glass either. It's already at risk of scratches and grease accumulation. It only stands to reason that the cover will eventually scratch as it will need to be cleaned often. Poor design consideration.

having the lens cover inside the glass protector is plain stupid design in the first place.

You know I feel really sorry for you guys who have gone out and bought the K850. So many faults have been reported, questionable image quality, but I think this issue of dust is unforgable. And, do you know what is funny - there are actually pictures of dust on the lens in the first reivews. Have a look at http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-k850-en.shtml. The Picture below (from mobile-review.com) appears to show dust under the lens. I think it does anyway because if you actually look closely at most of the other pictures you'll see the spec of dust in the same spot as well as the nice crack that developed in the back of the phone.

I think they will fix this soon, if they have not done so already on the assembly line. If they don't, this it could cost them more then repairing the faulty joy sticks on previous models.

I will still buy one when it comes out in 'my neck of the woods' but plan to keep it only until K850 comes out. Photo's from the 850 look great!!

I went and fixed mine at the service centre last week. So there is no problems getting in fixed-warranty issue. I hope they did something additional with it so there wont be any more dust. If not SE has to come out with some solution and instruct the SE service centres how to fix i permanently.

Edit:
I just checked it now and i now have two dust specks on the outer rimm of īthe camera housing and two more on the small "hatch". Hmm lets see where the might wonder off to:) So far i don't think my new dust specs are interrfearing in the shots quality but we'll see. I think that one might bee able to get ones money back if the same issue occours more than three times.

My phone has dust within the camera and its getting worse, i got my K850 about 2 weeks ago.

Im seriously thinking of swapping the phone to the LG KU990, I've bought the latest Sony Ericsson every year for the past 5-6years (and I'm only 18!) but I don't think I can rely on them anymore! My K800 packed up after about 14 months for no particular reason and had other problems with that phone (speaker) and previous phones.

that's what i am afraid of mate, fixing it will only halt the dust from getting in, before more and more are coming in as it's not a fixed solution, something must be done to the shape of the camera protector
