Haha Guys,
Its really easy, and sblant, it doesnt do much at all - all it does is collect finger prints!
Just remove the two screws at the base of the handset (In the battery cover), remove the cover, and then using a credit card just slowly work the back off, it will unclip, but please - be careful - you can damage the side lining easily if you try to be too hasty!
Once its off, it will expose the camera module - you can remove the lens cover here!
I have had mine done for well over three months, and have had NO issues, and im not wiping it all the time!

this is not a good solution, absolutly.
the lens cover is not really trasparent and makes some UV protection in the final photo. |

Ah sblant my dear boy, I'll have you know I happen to know 'just a little' about Digital Cameras - and would like to have you informed, that the lens cover is not a 'UV protected' piece.
It is a piece of GLASS - and, in fact - PhotoGraphs have been clearer and better contrasted since the removal!

No, unfortunately, you will have to by the right tool, or you risk mashing the screw head!
Good Luck!

is the mechanical shutter soft or hard?? i actually agree with Sony_a.. the "glass" lens cover is i think useless.. its just to make the back side of the phone look clean, "flat" or something.. |

putting a lens cover over a mechanical shutter is stupid.. you may say its "stupid" to remove it now coz, hell, it will void any warranties.. Sony should have just placed a mechanical shutter alone than that of a "glass" lens cover over a mechanical shutter.. |

@sblant
Dude, I use Digital SLR's on a professional level, and so would warrant myself with 'enough' knowledge to know when something is deterring the function of a product!
@dentoters07
Well put, Sony really should have just left a simple exposed shutter - its a HARD material, and wll not just collapse - plus if you need to do an insurance swap or whatever, just stick the glass back in!

im quite convinced that engineers have figure out that the lens cover is a better solution then a worse solution.
my vote is; keep the glass (and if you have a lot of dust, just clean it off with compressed air)
besides, no more 2-years warranty if you remove the glass, (thats the major reason to let it be i think)
