Okay so I'm hoping to upgrade to the K850i in the next few days (from K800i) but all I seem to be finding on here are people talking about bugs and the poor camera.
Is it really that bad?
The main reason I would be getting this phone is for the camera so I really need to know if the camera on the phone is any good, I know there is a photo topic but I just want personal opinions.
Are the current bugs with the phone worthy of an upgrade or would I be better off waiting a while?

Thanks.

My own personal view is that yes there are a few bugs in the software, but you get this with every new phone and not just this one.

Regarding the Camera problem, I have seen a couple on hear mention the problem with the Camera Shutter not working correctly, however I haven’t come across that my self. The photo quality is also not a problem. I have used both K850, K810, K800, N95 and the K850 is slightly better than the N95 which does take good photos, However the k810 and K800 come a close 3rd.

I think the phone is great for Photos and videos, however again there is teething problems and im sure they will be all ironed out in firmware’s to come.

The problems that seem to be most of is the K850 with the Vodafone Branding?

I got mine on Friday afternoon. The buttons take a little bit to get used to but I'm perfect with them now, the camera is really good unless you put a finger in front of anything on the other side of the camera. You have to hold the edges of the phone with your fingertips so as nothing at all trails in front of the sensors or the flash. Once you get used to that it's fine. As good as you can get for this size of camera lens and with no optical zoom. Go for it. I mine.

bugger.....I'm on Vodafone.

I've also heard that there are issues with photos being very dark, is this true in your opinion?

No thats what supprises me, My pictures are not dark. If a leave it on auto its fine, if i choose the inside mode the pictures do become even brighter.

So it may be down to personal choice.

I have also noticed that alot of people on here are also saying that there bottom of the phone is loose. I have checked mine and it seems ok to me, No wobble or creaks. So I dont know if its a batch of them?

I got mine from o2, but i got it on the 2nd batch run and not the first run. So not sure.

Hope this helps.

I've only had mine a few hours, but so far I like it.

The keys are a little fiddly at first, but if someone else on here is used to them then I hope to be soon too. Initially texting isn't easy, like tapping a hedgehog with your fingers expecting something legible to come out.

I am extremely pleased at the addition of the flashlight mode again though. I loved the flashlight feature on the K750i that sadly vanished on my K800i due to the addition of the new flash. Luckily the K850i has both the light and the new type of flash and again I can use it as an emergency torch if I wish. Nice move SE.

The ringtones sound slightly different on it, it's not a bad thing but it does sound slightly different to the K800i.

Sizewise, it feels slightly more bulky and someone commented earlier that I had a new brick. A little unfair really, but I like it all the same.

Best thing is to have a play in the shop. The O2 sales person advised me that they'd had a few returned as it wasn't what they expected, so it's worth taking for a test run first.

That stir might be a bit to do with me on here. My K850i is vodafone branded, I had a few firmware issues and was the first to start reporting them in one of the other topics but I've resolved them now. I think a lot of people have jumped onto the branded firmware being the problem, but I'm not so sure of that. A master reset seemed to have fixed things.

RE: the camera shutter. I think this problem is a batch problem, I had it occur to me and so has one other member on here I think, and I believe that member also had trouble with a sqeaky casing which I've suffered with. I think the two are linked and are down to a manufacturing fault in that particular batch. If you get yours over the nxt week or so chances are that batch will have cleared through the systems and yours will be fine.

Welcome @ESAT0 to Esato

I have both K800 and K810 and puchased my k850i. I didnt have any problems in purchasing the phone and havnt had any issues with it yet.

I am a heavy Texter and the K850i is fine for texting which is a good job for the ammount i send in a day.

I have made and recevied calls, voicemail, wap, internet, gprs, edge and 3g no probs at all. not made a video call yet tho.

Cant comment on battery life just yet as im still getting my bearings on the phone, but it seems to be fine with what i have used today.

One little quirk, When i make the call and hold the phone to my ear with my shoulder, my ear catches the touch sensitve and opens up the menu. (lol)

But thats all.

Yes ive been following the probs you have been having @Ricky D. Sorry to hear that, I hope that it all starts to work now ok.

I know that the voda branding is still taxing on the phone tho which is a shame for such a good phone.

Photos are dark if you cover the flash (VERY easy to do when you hold the camera as you might any ordinary digital camera). That isn't the main problem; it's the fuzzy snaps you get that suggest it's a bloody awful sensor they're using.

I hope firmware tweaks can improve the image quality, because for the first time in my life, I can honestly say that the G600, Viewty and N95 all take better pictures than the K850i. The only advantage is the arguably better camera interface (hardware and software) on the SE.

My early posts perhaps a little negative - but too soon. Now love the touch buttons - but keep your ears away..

I am having no issues with my K850. The pictures are coming out really well, one of the dark shots or noise mentioned by others - I'd just follow the sound advice of others and hold it as recommended.

It's worth having a trial, but the different keys and UI may take a little getting used to, as for me after 4 days with mine it's second nature and I'm liking the new phone. And it can only get better with firmware updates

MnM is on the money there - my ears just tried to write a message when I was taking a call. Luckily they are not smart enough to get through all the menus to picking a contact and sending it so no harm done!
