K850 Firmware Overview |

The only thing i can think of that drains my battery is that fact that i travel on the underground everyday to and from work, so whilst underground the phone constantly tried to pick up signal.
HOWEVER: i was travelling the same journey even when i had v29. So like i was saying earlier, my usage has been constant through the upgrade from v29 to v38.
Therefore the issue still stands that the battery life has deteriorated over the upgrade |

Its got to be something to do with the software that is draining the battery. Its nothing to do with usage, 3G, Bluetooth, searching for a signal or anything.
When I had 037 I could easily get 5 days out of it, which isn't too bad. I haven't used my phone since my last charge on Wednesday night, I didn't let it charge fully so I don't think it got to 100% cause when I checked it the following morning it was at 75%, it is now at 61%. That'd be pretty reasonable if that was the consumption when I was using it. |

I have a firmware issue... surprise surprise..
I have been on the generic R1CA037 for a while and it was ok, no major issues, just the speed thing. But I heard the R1DA was kicking rear end for speed so I used DaVinci to update to the Voda version (the phone was originally voda branded anyway). After unplugging from DaVinci and turning my phone lights up then lights down then nothing. It doesn't boot up at all. I plugged it into SEUS to try a forced reflash, but after going through all the motions the phone still doesn't turn on. I tried going back into DaVinci but it throws up a 'no script' error in the log and disconnects saying it's done. Before it does that though it recognises the phone and it's firmware as R1CA037 despite being flashed as R1DA038-voda. This is most frustrating that I can't reflash it at all. Any help will be great.

@Ricky D
After reading this thread you still wanted to go to v38?? :s
Maybe you should have used Davinci to get onto v37 VODA then used SEUS to update the voda 37 to 38.
Only thing i can think to fix the problem is to get the phone to a SE centre and get it flashed by them.
Is it the davinci update program that throws the script error? |

Yeah DaVinci gives me...
Identification Time - 00:00:10
Done!
Service Selection Started...
Error! Error loading MIDAS.DLL
No Scripts Avaiable For Your Device K850i
Script Execution Started...
Execution Time - 00:00:00
Done!
Then kicks me out. I found the source of the error, It's a windows update which changes the registry location for midas.dll and it needs to be re-registered. I'm reflashing with DaVinci again now (for another €10!). Hopefully it'll work else I'm sending it to be repaired.

Grrrr, charged my phone last night and have not used it for calls or texts (only the alarm this morning) and its already at 78%. Useless!
I have no doubt SE will sort this out in the next firmware, they do usually get the major bugs sorted (as was pointed out a few posts back regarding the K700i battery issue) but it is frustrating using the phone in the mean time.
Ordered my W960i 10 minutes ago so I should get that tomorrow. I'll only be using my K850i when I go out to take pictures, the rest of the time I can use the W960i.

Hi, guys.
I read every of your posts, but I don't write because till now I didn't have to tell you anything.
But now I have a big problem: since yesterday the camera shutter doesn't open at all. I tried about 50 times and nothing happens. The camera is turned on on the display but only black picture....
Please don't advice me to reflash the phone because for other reasons i did that two times today through davinci

This happened to my phone within the first 2 weeks of me getting the phone.
I had to send it back and get a new one.
Im not sure if there is a fix out there, but o2 just sent me a new phone.
Obviously the phone is within the 12 months warranty so you should be able to get a new one or get it fixed.

Yes, I have a 2 year warranty but the terms are not very good. I mean I have to wait 30 days if I take the phone to the service... or if they know about the problem and just give me another phone...

They do know about this, it is a very common fault with the first K850 phones.
Argue your case if they try to not give you a new phone immediatly. |

I honestly don't know what usage habits you have but I could Never dream of 5 days on my K850 (037 f/w). I've only had the phone for 2 weeks and so far IF I get 40 hours of it I'm happy. Then again I spend about an hour/day on the phone, and browse the web with the RSS feeds quite a bit.
What really helped me extend my battery life on my HTC TyTN was a little applet that switch 3G OFF so that the phone worked on GPRS/EDGE. This was VERY convenient because I didn't really need high speed until I was streaming video or something, all in all it added 15-20 hours of usage on the HTC. I wonder if there is such an applet or way to do it on the Sony Ericsson phones... |
