@Ricky.As far as i'm aware there isn't any malware that'll affect java phones. In fact antivirus apps are really pointless in smartphones as you get a prompt like "install skulls, etc, etc" so you'd have to be stupid to go ahead.

Actually there is a virus which affects java phones, and a few that affect symbian and a few that affect pocketpc.
This is the j2me virus:

Of course you have to be stupid enough to fall for the social engineering. But 50% of PC viruses work the same way. Example: an email saying "click this link to validate your security"

well I have. I've never encountered the redbrowser virus (a j2me virus) but I have been prompted via bluetooth on many occassions by s60 handsets infected with the cabir virus. Of course if I accept the cabir virus it won't affect my phone since it's not symbian, but it shows that the cabir mobile phone virus is in the wild and reasonably prevelent.

Anyway, I'm not arguing that anyone needs AV, I was just correcting the statement that there are no viruses for J2ME. The fact is neither j2me nor s60 viruses can infect a phone without the user having to accept a security prompt first. For someone to actually get infected is due to their own carelessness.
If you leave your bluetooth off all the time you likely will never have encountered the cabir virus, but if you leave you BT on all the time (as I do), then in public places you will occasionally get a prompt from an s60 asking you to accept 3kjhf8y58hr8329.sis (the name changes eachtime).

redbrowser will send non-stop sms messages to the number 1717. This will incur sms charges against your mobile phone account. Could be VERY damaging financially, but the worst it will do to your phone is run the battery dead. It will only send sms's while the redbrowser app is running, so it's not very good at hiding. This virus is only effective if the user can be tricked into installing and allowing the app to run. If they restart their phone they will have to physically go into the apps folder and start the redbrowser application in order for it to run.
cabir, will just keep trying to send itself via bluetooth, which will run the battery dead very quickly. There are probably people out there who think their battery is crap but don't realise they have cabir! Cabir will start up again even if you restart the phone, so you need to uninstall the cabir sis app to stop a cabir infected phone from trying to spread.
You don't need AV apps to get rid of either of these viruses - you can completely remove them by using the standard uninstall tools provided by the handset.
