I think you mean it is NOT possible right?
I tried it myself a couple of times but no luck, what I then wanted to do is to alter the font it self with some font editor...

It is very much possible to do that, i have done it.
The secret lies in Layout.xml..
Now, its pretty tricky to figure out which is which of all the lines, you can change different text fonts. By all means experiment with it.
Or just change one line, that changes all the fonts in the phone. (Im not 100% sure that it changes SMS/MMS font but it might)
Very well, this is the line you gotta search for in layout.xml:

Now, change FontE_24R to either a higher number(larger font) or a smaller number(smaller font).
For an example: FontE_20R which i have and which i am pretty satisfied with!
