iPhone announced on O2 available Nov 9 |

AFIAK, you don't have to "unlock" (i.e. SIM unlock) the phone to use another O2 SIM - you just have to activate it for use with iTunes (so you can sync stuff to it).
DVD Jon released a way of activating the iPhone without signing up to a contract for the US model. Hopefully his method will still work with the UK version, or a new 'activation' hack will emerge.
"Activating" the phone for use on O2 (or AT&T in the US), and "unlocking" the phone for use on another network are different things.

This will still sell very well even if it is really expensive.

Yeah, their forgetting one little thing, you'd buy the tariff regardless, it's the £269 thats the expensive part. But, people are dumb enough to pay it, so they'll pay it either way.

as of right now there are plenty of ways to activate your iphone.. but everything is based on firmwares 1.02 and below..
on pc use ibrickr
and on mac use apptapp...both are very easy to use... if you really want an iphone i would say to get an already unlocked one from resellers now..since the o2 price isn't that great anyway
unlocking efforts are also for 1.02 only right now... the UK one will ship with 1.11 so no one knows if the same unlocking will work.. but most likely it will not..
maybe we'll have to go back to the hardware unlock..

Erm, yeah - that's pretty much what I said back here - that current activation and unlock methods may not work on v1.1.1 firmware.

Funny you should mention the fact you had to cut your headphones to get them to fit as i just read that some where else just now. To be honest there is no way i am going to start risking wrecking my Shure headphones just to fit one device. I really don't get why on a Music playing device they have used a recessed jack seems incredibly silly and pointless to me as you either have to resort to cutting your current headphones jack plug or buying an adapter what a total pain and plain stupid IMO.

Hey Marc
I didnt have to cut my headphones I could have easily bought an adapter for my Ultimate Ears but its just another extension to an already long cable and I never use headsets to talk not a big fan I rather disconnect earphones and answer a call. But if you have purchased an iphone and are worried about cutting your lovely shures then fear not as Shure has come to your RESCUE

@DragonEye
To quote John McEnroe
"YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS"
That has to be one of the worst looking adapter solutions i have ever seen, i can't believe any one would actually pay to have one let alone actually use it.

I got my new iphone today and it is fantastic! Unlocking was a breeze, I'm using it on T-Mobile USA. You have to try it to believe it.

Is there anyone who's actually gonna buy one on contract with O2 now we know the details?
So far, since the announcement, I haven't seen a single person on any forum say "I'm going to get one".
I don't think it will be anything like the success Apple/O2 hope in the UK...
If it is possible to buy just the phone for £269 from an AppleStore, take it home and (h)acktivate it without signing up for an 18 month contract, and stick in an O2 PAYG SIM, I may be tempted.
Otherwise its a W610 + iPod touch for me!
Exactly Jools. I have the iPod Touch and it is pretty cool. I was lucky enough to get one from the States from a friend. Too bad it does not have BT but then again, neither did any of the original iPods and people still seem to have been able to hear music. For me it's the Nokia E90, and iPod Touch. Gear4 has a BT device that connects the phone and iPod. Works not too badly.
