Hi. Does anybody know how to get VOiP calls or Skype on the P1i as, contrary to what SE were saying pre-launch, there appears to be no VOiP program on the phone, and Fring do not yet support the P1i (the software for P990i will not work on the P1i apparently). All opinions gratefull received! Am awaiting my P1i tomorrow/Thursday... |

Thanks, Ares. I'll give that a try when I receive mine. I saw a posting on another forum which said the P990 version didn't work but I suppose the only way to know is to try! |

Are you sure about Opticom being available from SE website? That's good news if it is as the VOiP functionality is one of the main reasons I ordered the P1i (which I've now been told will be delivered Friday) |

The p1i has a link to the iSkoot for Skype App. You can find it by selecting the More Applications icon on the Home page. the application is free |

@all,
But using iSkoot isn't as it is a call back service rather than actually giving you free Skype to Skype or VOIP calls. Frnig is your best bet IMO a truly great free app that delivers a quality service IMHO.

But there maybe situations where iSkoot is superior. I use both applications. In Germany I do have a phone flatrate to landline numbers. ISkoot uses a landline number to call other skype users. But I do not have a data flatrate. As long I am in my homecountry, I can use iSkoot for free to call other skype user - but would have to pay the data transfer with fring - as long as there is no free wlan access. |

@dominique
But the initial part of your communications are over a GSM cell call to ISkoot to initialize the call what is this cost of this? of course correct me if i am wrong but that is how i understood iSkoot to work and why i was never interested in it.
I use Fring for Skype to Skype calls or Skype out for international calls and it costs me no more or less than using my home setup as i have an unlimited data plan on my devices or use WiFi. Fring is free to use and provides true Skype free and cheap calls. Every one is of course free to use what suits them best but for me Fring really delivers.

First there is a data connection with a very little data traffic to ISkoot to show me the online status of my Skype contacts and to chat (with the next version of ISkoot). As soon as I hit "Call" ISkoot dials a local Landline number and uses it as a Gateway to Skype (for the duration of the whole call). This Landline number is covered by my phone flatrate - so no costs for me there.
It heavily depends on you phone/data plan, wifi availability and current location which solution is cheaper. As both applications are free, I use them both with pleasure
