Sony Ericsson may be able to sell 100 million mobile phones in 2007, says chief Executive Miles Flint.
Esato News
"I don't want to comment on estimates but that (100 million phones) is realistic," he said. He also said that he's not worried about the falling average price for its mobile phones. But despite this the company's ambition is to have an average selling price that's above the industry average. source:marketwatch

They sold around 25 million this quarter, and we all know Q4 is when the sales are really huge, so I'm confident that SE could easily meet its target.
Although, it's still amazing that Nokia managed to sell 100 million in the last quarter. Maybe not in terms of pure profit, but it's still an impressive figure.

Hi axxxr,
I have read this story elsewhere and it says that they have sold 24.9 million devices in the first 6 months of the Year. So i really don't see how they can expect to sell 3 times the amount in the 2nd half of the Year which is what they will need to do to achieve 100 million. Anyone got any further information on how this is going to be achieved.
Marc

Well the average selling price is 125EUR right now but that is bound to come down if they are selling cheaper phones - they can't have it both ways.
They sold 25 millions handsets last quarter and Q1 is traditionally very slow, a fraction of Q4, which is always a bumper quarter for them so I'd say it was achievable.

@Dogmann
It's all on the Sony Ericsson site, under press releases.
It sold 21.8 million in Q1, and 24.9 million in Q2.

Why do phone companies care about their average price?

If they think by not selling low end phones they can be a great company, they are only kidding them selves.
Nokia has less average price compared to SE.

This thought is driven by the myth that cheaper price product means they are of low quality. |
