I think the bottom line is that SE now seem to be concentrating on flashy looks and lights as opposed to build quality. The first w580i I had suffered from a terrible slider and I changed it straight away. As soon as I was aware of the key issue I monitored mine closely and decided to sell the phone before the inevitable happened....just looking at the way the keypad is designed you can see it was done for looks/budgets rather than durability.

It seems that both Nokia and SE are releasing various phones with dodgy build quality and firmware. I have a Nokia 6300 now which I'm happy with but I understand when these first came out they suffered from a memory card bug. It just seems that manufacturers are releasing different models every week and quality seems to be suffering in the rush to market.

I was enthusiastic about the W580i, but decided not to get one when I heard about the keypad problems with the S500i, as the W580i has a similar keypad.

Opted for the K810i and love it. Not too worried about the joystick, as long as I look after it, it should be ok. Love the rubberised back of the K810i as well!

Could you explain how what I'm saying is contradicting what your thoughts are as you have totally baffled me on this one.

Hi everybody,

I really wanted to buy this phone because it's unique, but after making some research, I've found the problem with the cracking keys.
My problem is that I am very hard to please when it comes about design and couldn't find any phone like this on the market.
So I'm still thinking of it and I think I'm gonna buy it.
My questions are (for those who have the phone or knows about it) :

1. Is there an official press release or announce from SE about the problem on a site or anywhere?
2. What's the latest week i can get at this moment? W31?
3. Does the keypad cracks influence the functionality in any way? I mean, after they crack, i can still use it normally (except for the aesthetic fault)?

Thank you and sorry for my bad English.

Yep, I believe that SE are concentrating on style rather than substance at the moment.

Whilst it would be nice to believe that 'deep down' people are only interested in phones that work, I believe that a look at the current mobile market contradicts this. More and more phones are being manufactured that concentrate on style and design over practicality. Look at the thin Samsungs, the screen cracks on them all the time and you have to be so careful with them....people know this but they still sell like hot cakes.

I do agree that people with a knowledge or strong interest in phones (like us on here) do tend to be more demanding but the public as a whole who buy mobile phones are very easily swayed by looks, flashing lights and phone graphics.

1. Is there an official press release or announce from SE about the problem on a site or anywhere?

- No, just people saying that SE knows about the problem, nothing official

2. What's the latest week i can get at this moment? W31?

- It does not matter what week, because the design is the same, some people get lucky and the keys do not crack, but after my second strike, I think I'm not lucky at all

3. Does the keypad cracks influence the functionality in any way? I mean, after they crack, i can still use it normally (except for the aesthetic fault)?

- The keys will still work normally, and you will barely notice it except when they get lighted up in dark environments.

... Hope this helps

> Hi, I just want to add that the function of the cracked key/keys is severely changed. I've had 3 S500i with cracked keys and on my 4th now. The cracked key requires quite a bit more pressure to work than the non cracked keys. I disterbs the flow of texting and is very irritating in my opinion.
